Model railroads - Something different

I know a few members are into (or want to be into) model railroading. Tonight I was, um, working on the railroad and getting a few construction photos just to document the mess we're making & on a whim I just set up a small scene with an MG model being pulled by a team of oxen and took a shot.

I know it has some technical issues but I just let the camera do what it wanted, except for turning off the flash.

I think maybe I'll doctor the MG a little (it's a TC) and make it into a TA or TB so it'll be accurate for the era modeled & use it on the layout. It'd be fun to build a dealership.

Very cool! I'm gonna be gettin busy on my HO layout here soon. I've got a few LBCs parked in front of the local Pub right now... I'll have to get a pic.

My HO setup is sitting in a cabinet in the garage...gotta start planning a new layout soon - grandson & all...haven't played with it since daughter was tiny (& she's 34 now!)

Never got into HO much. Mostly worked with O gauge and S gauge (American Flyer). Though for the last couple of years all my efforts have gone into collecting and running pre war Lionel Standard Gauge.

ok guys that was when I was a kid what I want to see are the race tracks lol

We've got an original (50's,I think)
Lionel set that we put on the piano some-
-times at Christmas.
I thought about having it appraised, but
then might want to sell it.It's been in my Wife's
family since new.

Ah, I can tell it's getting cold...we're doing "indoor stuff". Considering your location, I think some "snow" on the layout with some
Model A "sleds" would be fitting (as well as that MG-T).
Or maybe you don't *want* to think about snow!

I've been futzing with my slot-cars and R/C cars in preparation for the Christmas competition with the son-in-laws
and my little brothers.
And the O-gauge layout goes under the tree this week.

My dear old Dad worked for British Railway (steam) and Canadian National (the first diesels), so I've liked trains all my life.
I wish I could ride to work in one.
When Dad was a kid in Cavan (Ireland), a narrow-gage working train would pass through his farm.
That exact same train is now in a a NJ state park and we've ridden in it...small world!
One of my best friends (and car race buddy) is a member of a Speeder club...those things are cool too.

The Whippany Train Museum is right the street from us, so we get to see old, full-scale stuff every day.
And they have a nice model layout too.

Christmas Train at Whippany (sorry for big pic size---not mine)

I've Gilbert American Flyer stuff in my attic. Keep saying I should catalog it and sell it... It'd take me a month just to go thru and inventory. GAH.

Hey Doc, if you ever decide to unload the Flyer stuff let me know. Always had a soft spot (wife says soft head) for that stuff.

Will do, John. It won't be 'til after Christmas tho. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

here's a link to the layout I have. I bought all the parts at the local hobby shop, and it wound up being considerably cheaper than Atlas's pre-packaged set (go figure).
It's a great layout. the trains run well, and it offers a lot of varity. I have it wired for dual-cab. So I could have a friend over, and we can run 2 trains at once.
This winter hopefully will see landscaping.

Nice Banjo you running steam or diesel? I always liked the steam engines and the first generation diesels. I grew up on a branch line of the L&N. Its a through line after CSX took it over.

I've got both. I'm kinda going for the transition period (50s) My favorite engine is a 2-8-8-2 "Mallet" steam engine my grandfather gave me. It's got AT&SF livery, but I'm trying to keep my layout local to this region. So when I went out and bought a train I got an early diesel passenger train in PRR livery. I wanted Erie Lackawanna (What used to run around here) but it wasen't available at the time.
My other favorite is Lehigh Vally (ran through my tiny hometown of Breesport on the early 1900s)

Looks nice; although the tow lines are a bit blurry /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif.

My father-in-law is also a model train nut. Here's a photo of my kids on part of his LGB layout. The black and white effect is not quite what we were hoping for, and the photo does not begin to do this layout justice. He's got hundreds of feet of track outside and some truly awesome landscaping. The train below crosses a trestle over a pond the loops back into a tunnel exiting below my daughters left elbow. The layout is DCC controlled and my son runs his own locomotive via a cordless phone (via some sort of 900Mhz DCC interface). The train parks inside the house basement via track suspended from the ceiling.

Wish I were retired /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

I once had a Marx train like that. My parents worked at the Marx toy factory.

I used to collect the Marx 3/16 scale trains. Really nice stuff. Made from 1946 to I think 1951.

Set up the 0 gauge under the tree last week.
2 year old grandson watches with uncommon patience and wonder.
