Missing: one F-35

> US military hunt for missing F-35 fighter jet after it disappeared during a ‘mishap’ <

“If you have any information that may help our recovery teams locate the F-35, please call the Base Defense Operations Center at 843-963-3600.”

The above phone number is serious. The a/c is still missing.

(With all the military high tech we've paid for, they've lost a flying F-35 over South Carolina? Did the pilot shut off tracking signals before ejecting?)

Incredible. I suspect there is a “backstory” that we will never hear due to classified information. A fighter pilot ejects while the airplane is in autopilot… either the pilot pulled a rookie move like this fellow in France (> 64-year-old man accidentally ejected himself during a surprise trip on a fighter jet <.) or something went very wrong. I have faith it is the latter, and expect the public will not get the full details.

Article I saw said: "ejected safely." I'd think he/she would have had a locator beacon in the 'chute harness. We flew with such.

Seems there was no problem finding the pilot; he's in hospital.

But not knowing where the plane went/is? That's really unnerving.

I also read that since it is designed to evade radar - this too makes it harder to spot

As of last night it was reported that wreckage was found a couple hours north of the ejection that they think is the aircraft. Haven't heard anything this morning to update that from 12 more or less hours ago.

Thanks Mike. I figure the military will go through the details very carefully before any public info is shared.

But I still can't see how the aircraft could "disappear" from tracking. It's built to be hard for radar to track ... but all military aircraft send out tracking signals at specific radio frequencies.

The mystery continues.

Well, it's a stealth aircraft and it shows they must be improving the technology of hide and seek! It's a secret, so we'll never know!
