Miss in engine and loud lifter[?]

Okay, had carburetors reshafted and floats checked. Car runs great at idle, which I couldn't get before. I have a very loud tap from the rocker area and a miss which is very pronounced at higher rpms. I checked the compression on all cylinders and all cylinders read between 125 and 130 psi (specs call for 130). Rockers have been set at .013 (even though I'm going to redo this before anything else because I'm not sure the engine was warm when I did it). This has a crane electronic ignition in a 45DE4 distributor with total advance at 30 degrees at 3,000 rpm. I have tried everything with the carburetors (enriching and leaning) and have not been able to get rid of the miss. Could there be something wrong with the dizzy. I have a point point type (25DE4 - I think) with all new innards that I was contemplating trying in place of the crane electronic. Or could I be having a problem with tappets and/or push rods. The noise is very pronounced and with the kind of readings I'm getting with the compression test it doesn't seem like it would be a valve. Any help? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

hmmm, sounds like a timing issue. Where is the advance set at idle? Sounds like you have a rubber bumper car. I could be wrong, but also sound like you have your valves set too tight. I think mine are .015 cold.

Just a thought but have your checked your timing?
It sounds a bit like a jumped tooth on the timing gear or a bad distributor gear.
If you place your engine at TDC for the number 1 piston and check your distributor's rotor for proper firing position then you can check for your valve operations by rotating the engine and observing the valves.
You can tell if the distributor is jumping the gun or the valve to piston relationship is off.

and your firing order is 1,3,4,2 ?
