Does anyone know the MGB V8 (or the seller) that is currently being auctioned on eBay? If you do, what is your opinion of the car? The link is:

I am not impressed with the quality of the seat recovering for one. Another is the use of a piece of wood to prop open the hood. Yet another the Sun Pro tach (or other aftermarket hot rod item) shoved into the dash. Last, but not least, I wonder about the covers on the sills.
Small details can indicate the overall level of quality that goes into a project. There may be a very good base here that just needs a little more to be outstanding. For that kind of price I would have to drive it before buying it.

I believe this car is owned by British American Motors. They fabricate fiberglass front and rear bumber covers, fenders, etc. for many British cars.

When Tony Barnhill went down to pic up some hoods he might have seen the car. He should be along shortly with an anwser.

I saw & sat in the car back a few months ago...didn't get to drive it but it definitely sounded sweet....as I remember, the hood is a fiberglass unit...British America built the car to show off its bumper setup, fiberglass MGC hood (the stock one) & V8 conversion setup....its well worth the money

In reply to your observations re: the MGB V8 on ebay.
The quality of seat covers is dictated by the manufacturer not the installer, you get what is available and you’re stuck with it.
The wooden prop is a temporary measure to allow the bonnet to open wide to obtain a good photo (nit picking).

If you had paid $175 to have the original tachometer converted to 8 cylinders by a so called Specialist and it only lasted 30 days wouldn’t you fit aftermarket? The word “shoved” is a very snide innuendo it implies that you wish to indicate poor workmanship (nasty nit picking).

Sill Covers: If you were a little more observant you might have realized that the wheels have a little more offset than standard which causes water splash and stone chips at the front and rear of the sills. The SS covers protect the paintwork and look far superior to those tacky vinyl stickers so often fitted to MGB.

America seems to have an excess of armchair mechanics that see all, say all, and know very little. I would have thought BCF was formed to help, educate and entertain not destruct the British Car Scene.

Lastly the price? I suggest you visit a few professional restorers and get some quotes to replicate a car to this standard and revise your opinions.
This paranoa with cheap, cheap, cheap, is killing the LBC scene. Think about it!

he was just being observant. wouldnt you be if you were looking at a car and saw a wooden hood prop or an aftermarket gauge in the dash that doesnt match the others and those sill covers are notorious for hiding rusty sills. and those seats do kinda look bad for being so new looking. I'm not trying to start a fight or anything just trying to stop one.

Thanks Adam, you hit it on the mark. Digital photos can either make a good car look bad, or a bad one look too good, depnding on their size and quality. Personal experience, as I suggested in my first posting, for a car at this price is a must.
Tony had seen it and testified, that should be sufficient for anyone who is interested.

The original question was directed to those who know the car - not opinions about the photography or the ad - which presumably is why Steve asked the question in the first place.

If you have specific information on this vehicle please contact MGA Steve a private message.

I know aerog closed this topic, but I've re-opened it for a moment to add one additional thought.

Since I own BCF I am probably best suited to describe why I started BCF. Simply put, it is a place where enthusiasts of little British cars can converse about the hobby. There are over 2500 members here and thus there will be all levels of expertise and all manner of opinions. Some people (like myself) are novices and admit same. Others are Novices who think they are ace mechanics, while a few actually are ace mechanics. On this forum, everyone is entitled to their opinions as long as we are respectful of one another. Disagreements are fine, again, as long as we remain respectful. If you disagree with someone's observation, it is ok to state that you disagree and why. However, if you feel the need to get personal about a disagreement - don't. Or take it to email.
