OK guys - can anyone identify this engine - and the car it powered?

Hint: the car came stock with 2-speed Powerglide transmission.

I'll go with early Corvette. About the same time I tried a TR2.

I've built a couple of these, the steering tends to be about as impressive as the drive train.

I hated the babbet (SP) bearing, never did understand why Chevy stayed with them so long.

Stovebolt six. Memory test - what did the Chevy's of the late 40s and early 50s have concerning their 3-speed column shifts? I can still hear the gear whine of those transmissions.I never owned one but drove several.

Vacuum assisted shift! Hard to speed shift in the Summer and impossible in the Winter! I've owned 3 with that setup. But, that old cast iron 6 was one tough motor! PJ

Paul- how'd that vacuum assist work? What did it do? Automatic clutch? or power assist to moving the shift lever? or ...?

I'm a nut on finding out how the old tech worked. Maybe that's why I volunteer at Old Sturbridge Village!

Power assist on the shift. I never could figure out why it was invented! It worked great when new, but when it got a couple years on it, it was a royal pain as it took more pressure to shift than without it. It could be removed and return the transmission to a regular shift by removing the chamber and changing the linkages, which a lot of them were. :encouragement:
