MBA Study of Lotus Brand

I am currently studying an MBA at the University of Pittsburgh and am undertaking a research project on the Lotus brand, and wonder if you can help me.

At this stage all I am asking is that you email me, mbalotusbritish@gmail.com , your responses to the following questions:

What 5 things do you instantly think of when somebody asks you what the Lotus brand stands for?
Do you currently own a Lotus car? if so which one
If not what sports car do you own?
If you either work for Lotus Cars, or dealerships selling Lotus cars, please can you indicate so.
What state or country do you reside in?

I would appreciate if you did not post your thoughts on this site as I do not want to bias any responses I receive, but free bumps would be welcome. Some of you may have seen this research on other car forums. The reason for this is that I am trying to collate responses by owner groups to gain a true perspective from a variety of makes.

I have no financial interest in this project, just an interest in the Lotus brand and what different groups, including dealers, perceive of it. Essentially I am trying to understand whether the general public has a different opinion of the Lotus brand to that of either Lotus Cars or its dealership network.

If you have any questions relating to this project, please email at the above, and I will respond with a more detailed explanation of my objectives.

All responses will be treated in the strictest confidence, and any reports produced will only show amalgamated responses.

Best Regards

Andrew Parker

"Quacks like a duck": Which MBA are ya "studyin'" there, Sparky?!

Mebbe I'll see if there's a U of P fellow who'll vet this...

...or mebbe not.

I'm guessin' yer IP addy is "Somewhere Over China," there, "Andrew."

SPAM, spam, spam, spam... "GMAIL"?!?! good'un, Alice.

Certainly isn't spam matey.

I am undertaking an MBA at the University of Pittsburgh, paid my fees yesterday and am still feeling the pain. I graduate this April. The reason I have set up a gmail account is to allow me to filter results by make, or geography.

If you don't want to post as you think this is spam that's fine but trust me on this I am legitimate, and I really would appreciate peoples opinions.

Many thanks

Looks kosher to me Doc.....I've come across many gmail addresses in the course of my daily business. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Andrew, I hope that you will get the responses that you need.

Will you p[ost a summary of your findings and conclusions here?

Well, well. I stand corrected. Apologies for jumpin' you Andrew. We see too many spammer/scammer posts, so I see 'em under th' bed.

And I too would be interested to see the results posted here.

Andrew:

When you registered for this site, one of the things requested of you was that you introduce yourself in the New Members area.
It appears that you have "skipped that step". Speaking for myself, I regard that step as a very useful indicator of a person's commitment to the British Car Forum

I have found the folks on this site to be friendly and generous with information. But most of us assume there is a sense of "back-and-forth" here. I have shared a lot of information here and conversely, I have learned a lot from others.

It appears that your first post here is a rather lengthy request for information. Would you do that in real life to someone you just met?

I have advised a lot of college students in my life and when it comes to getting good research, the best information comes from people that you have gotten to know and understand.

G'luck with your project.

Thanks, Nial.

Precisely why my reply was so brusque.

...did I just use a French word?!?! ACK.

SOrry for skipping the new members step. I have to go to lectures right now, Decision Tech, but will do it as soon as I get back.

I will happily post some of my results here in April time. I say some as I have some contacts at Lotus who are providing me with some data from their perspective and I have to respect their confidences.

Thanks for the responses so far.

Uh-huh - TOLD you we were long-lost twins!

Andrew - I don't have a Lotus, but it's only because I don't have the room for anything else. Best of luck with the project.

I've now done a little post in the new members section, sorry for not doing that before. You can get a little more insight about me there.

By the way for this survey, non-Lotus owners views would really be appreciated as they in theory are the customers Lotus should be attracting.

All the best

Andrew

Saw your post, Andrew...know from whence you come..back when I did my MBA in the 80's, my thesis was on the collapse of the Studebaker Corp & how it occurred/might have been countered.

One thing I learned through all those hours of study (& also the ones for my MMAS & PhD - ABD) was I needed to try to interact a bit more with people; i.e., don't be a stranger...let us know what you're developing concerning Lotus as it probably has an impact on other potential car manufacturers (like the Chinese MG!)

Coincidence - Last night I read a PhD's article ("Part 1") on the demise of Packard. At the time, of course, it was part of Studebaker.

IIRC, there was discussion at a board meeting of selling Mercedes-Benz cars at Studebaker-Packard dealers. I don't remember if it ever actually happened.

As a Pitt Alumnus, Andrew, I cannot ignore a request from a fellow Pather! Good luck, one more emial on its way! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Disassembling MG's! hehehehe The "ABD" means "all but dissertation" - I got old & figured I'd never use it so said, "what the heck!"

Thanks for the insights so far.

WIth this forum and a few others I have around 80 responses, and some interesting disparity of opinions, particularly by owner type.

If anybody else would like to post to see if can get to the magic 100 that would be great.

Dr Entropy. Thanks for the tips on the new members post. Met up with Ascot over the weekend. Great guys and really informative.

All the best

Andrew

My pleasure. "Auto Palace" was what the Grande bro's called their pitch, BTW. Someplace near "dahntahn."
