Maiden Voyage Report

I took it out on the road today. This is the 1st time the car has been up to speed since 1979 and the engine, transmission, overdrive, brakes, suspension all having been rebuilt years ago by my Dad. I was living elsewhere when he did this and wasn't able to help with any of this. To make a long story short, he did a darn good job ! I had 50 lbs of oil pressure at crusing speed, 20 lbs at idle, 185 degree temp, the overdrive functioned flawlessly... After about 10 minutes of driving, the rear end started to make a loud whinning noise !!&&?? You all know what goes through your mind when this happens after spending thousands of dollars and then hearing this God awful noise ! I drove it home very easy and I was cringing every time I had to give it a little power which made the noise get 5 times louder ! The rear end had about 1/2 a cup of oil in it, guess he forgot to fill it back up and I didn't check it 1st. A quick trip to the store and then I filled it up. If that is the worse that happens, I am in good shape.
All in all it was a very good " maiden voyage " and I am now happy to report that I am
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif the car now.
I'll slowly ease into driving it a little further as I tweak it and work out any bugs....
I need to thank Basil and everyone on this forum for all of the help that you gave me to get me this far. I know I couldn't have done it without all of your help !
Sincerely,
Ed K.

Congrats! I know how good (and nervous) it is to take that first low-speed trip around the neighborhood! I hope that the only problem was low oil in the differential and that I get to see you and the car soon!

Congratulations Ed! Your car is beautiful. It's got to be such a sense of accomplishment.

CONGRATULATIONS - You give the rest of us hanging in the garage late at night hope! Send a picture or two along when you can...

Congratulations Ed! That feeling is still fresh in my mind so I’m sure you must be walking on clouds right now.
