Lucas oil additive

Has anyone been using Lucas oil additive? been using it for the last 2 oil changes and seems to run a little smoother. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
Let me get this straight. You drive a car with lucas electrics and your willing to put something marked "lucas" in your oil. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

With my first B, I used Pennzoil, Havoline, Valvoline or Wolf's Head straight 30W. Auto-X'd about every other weekend... On one oil change interval I couldn't find those lubes so went with Q-State. First run thru the course, I pulled the dipstick and it was FOAM!!! Ended my day and I never used THAT stuff again. I know they've changed, now are owned by Pennzoil but it's a deep-seated prejudice. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

When anyone asks about "additives" my Standard Response is: "Yeah, sure. Pour it in there... you don't plan on ownin' that British-hit-box for more'n a few years anyway, right? Let th' next poor schlub worry about it."

It sure is. Most lubrication relies on an oil film to separate the two parts from metal to metal contact. Air is compressible/ oil is not. Air in the oil cannot support nearly the amount of bearing load that straight oil can.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif ...sounds like even the oil in LBCs tries to oxidize and if it cannot turn to rust literally do the next best things....
 
I've played with the Lucal additive displays (with the handcrank and gears), and I always thought it made the oil thicker... Like a higher weight... Always looked like something that would blow some seals to me...

Man, I never heard of or saw "foming" oil before, but I'll never use any additives in my oil! I alway's thought Castrol did a good job by itself. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
