TR6 Loose TR6 Sunvisors

When I bought my '75 TR6 it came with an uninstalled set of TRF sunvisors. I went ahead and installed them, throwing out the old, thoroughly beat original set.

Unfortunately after I threw the old ones away I discovered that these new ones droop terribly. :madder: Originally they'd fall all the way down in 30 sec to a minute. Pinching the sleeve inside the visor and wrapping the shaft with 3 or 4 kinds of tape (various experiments) have gotten them to stay up for about 3-5 minutes at a time.

If I had bought these I'd have simply returned them. I didn't, and I'm pretty well stuck with them unless I buy somebody else's set.

Is there some way I haven't tried to get these thing to stay up? The old set would hold over the windshield at 70 mph, deflecting the air! :confuse:

I bent the rod in the middle, stopped the problem.

As Ray says, bend the rods. To do that, take the visor assembly off the windshield, pull the rod out with some effort. Place said rod in vice and either slightlytorque it enough to put a very small bend in the middle (too much and you cannot get it back in) or tap with a BFH. The bend in the shaft after it is reinstalled will keep the visor up at the highest speeds.

I slipped two very thin rubber caps over each end of the inner shafts going into the center section and it worked fine, but bending the big shaft sounds more permanent. Especially when my wife moves hers up and down 20 times a trip to look at her hair. I don't have anything to look at, so even if I had a mirror on my side, it wouldn't matter.

Paul.... I don't think my wife even knows there's a mirror on her side! She's too busy hoping her hat doesn't blow off.....and my hair-do is the same as yours

Back to the topic on hand............ I did the bend the rod procedure about 11 years ago and they're still holding up fine. :driving:

Bobby,

I've got that bending on my future project list. After we play golf, you can come over to the house and demonstrate your bending techniques while I open the cold ones for you and Al.

Keep an eye on Bill on Sunday. He'll be there with his car this year, so the competition will be tougher.

Ya wait to crack a beer when you get home.
That's what the 19th hole is for
Geez, you guys give Doc a headache

Bill, I am not kidding. You don't give yourself or your car enough credit. Your car looks great and you drive it everywhere like Bobby and Al, so don't cut yourself short too soon.

Don, my house in on the third green, so when we finish, we can come over here. Or......maybe we'll stop after three for a cold one.

Duh! I don't know why I didn't think of that on my own! I wrapped that stupid shaft with different kinds and amounts of tape at least a dozen times. I must have been trying too hard. :wall:

Bending the rod worked perfectly. Again, thanks a lot!! :thankyousign:
