I'll start off with letting you know that I'm new to the forum as of 10 minutes ago.

I've had my 65' Healey 3000 BJ8 for 10 years. My tires are 12 years old. I'm looking to replace them. The tires are 195 70 15. I like the beefier look they give the car and I'd like to replace them with like tires. Coker has a Michelin of that size, but I was hoping to find something slightly cheaper than $282 per tire. Every tire of that size that I've found on the market is made for a van.

Any ideas?

When I acquired my 3000, I was able to get a set of 8 spoke minilite rally wheels in addition to the wire wheels. I thought it might be nice to set these up for the car as well. They are 1/2 wider than the wire wheels. Does anyone have any experience picking tires for these wheels?
 
When I purchased my Vredestein 185/70/SR15 tires from British Wire Wheel, I also purchased new Dayton wire wheels that are 15 X 5's. I believe the original Dunlops wire wheels are 15 X 4.5, so I think the 185/70/SR15 would fit your rally wheels just fine. A tire dealer should be able to verify that.

They are made by Fulda (a large European tyre manufacturer) and they actually relaunched this as a classic tyre. They cost in Europe around 90 € and are freely available.
Don't know if you can find them stateside.---Higgins

Check out www.fulda.com, go to summer tyres and then to classic line. Vredestein is another company but in globalistion times, you never know----Higgins
 
Yep that worked Higgins, but I could not locate a dealer here on the west coast.Perhaps some of the east cost guys may locate one-we will see-Thanks--Keoke
 
The Nankang says it fits a 4.50 inch rim, I think the minilites are 5.0 or 5.5, I'll have to check...I'm surprised at how few manufacturers make this size. (Like Keoke says) I'd like to get a really soft tire for the minilites, something with lots of grip. I have two other vehicles with really wide Eagle GAs good for about 25k miles, and I really like them.
 
Can one of you fine gentleman post a picture or two of your car so that I can see what the Vredestein 185's look like on a Healey. It's all in the stance and before I order a set of 4 I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing for a change! If anyone else is running 175 Michelin's it be nice to see those as well as any others!

I haven't mounted them yet but I just got a set of Kuhmo's from the Tire Rack for only $30 each!!! They're 165/80R15 with the same size specs as the original Michelins for my BN7.

That tyre size is about as close to the original issue tyre as you can get without going broke.--Fwiw--Keoke
