LeMans Carbs..........

I am selling (ebay), a pair of Factory LeMans carbs that came off a friends Healey (he decided, dont ask why, to put on new carbs and make the old ones into a coffee table display). This car is a factory M, and I have a copy of the Heritage Cert. Car was sold (estate sale), years ago and the buyer didnt get the carbs along with the sale of the car (bottom line was purchase price was low). Some folks have asked to the car's #'s, but I have not released these yet. Should I do this? I do not want another car to be made into this M's factory #'s. How should this be handled>?

wangdango, interesting question, when i sent for the cert. for my 100m, i was told that some people will request several at a time trying to find a car they can register, "fishing" was the term used, most probably to dummy up a car (bn2) to make it look like a factory 100m, ive been offered some big bucks to sell just my tags without the car or any of its parts, the less info you give these people the better off the healey world would be, i.m.h.o.

Thank you both. I did get a response from the fellow looking to purchase the Heritage Cert with the carbs. He was offended by my suggesting that by providing that, he could build "another" factory M using the same #s. IF that was not the case, WHY would you want that "build sheet." I will not give ANYONE the #'s for that car. I would show the sheet w/out the entire #'s. I am doing the right thing?

Hey Wangdango,
I think you handled it great. If someone is modifying a 100-4 to LeMans
specs, as I am doing right now, you simply need the 1 &3/4 H6 carbs to be
correct. Those could come from a TR3 or TR4 and are pretty available. It
would be neat to have some original carbs but certainly not a requirement
to bring your car up to LeMans specs. Besides, the car numbers for the
640 factory 100M's are known. Of course, we all know there are some
folks out there who will try to cheat anyway they can. Nice job protecting
the heritage.

Mike

:yesnod: The carbs have nothing to do with the vin# of the car. The only reason I'd give the number out is if the owner of the car wanted the original carbs back on the car (from the estate sale). That person would have to prove that he owned the car in question.

Mike -

The H6s from the TR are no good - choke levers are all wrong and the carb float chambers are mirror mounted - on the healey both carbs are left handed. I suppose with some purchases the carbs could be made right, but the choke levers may be hard to come by.

Hey Alan,
Oh nooooooo ! I already bought a set of H6's that came off
of a TR3 and had been refurbished. I thought they would
work okay but I guess what you are telling me is that my
float chambers are left and right handed, not both left
handed. Nuts !!! I had not tried to mount them yet but
know I can't send them back to the fellow I got them from
as he certainly did not do anything wrong. I might just have to
take a run at the LeMans set this topic started on. I checked
out some pictures of 100M's and see what you mean about the
float chambers but could I use the linkage from my existing
carbs ? Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Mike

Well, I just went out and checked my H6's and the float chambers are
both RIGHT HANDED. Anyone need a set of nice H6's for a Triumph ?
This just goes to show you, do a better job researching something like
this as opposed to looking to save a few bucks and thinking - that's
the operative word - that all H6's are alike !!!

Mike

Take the bowl assembly and the linkage from your old carbs. Works great with TR 3 carbs. You may have to relocate the choke pivit to the front carb which will require minor drilling and a tap Good luck and if you have additional question, please ask. Gary

Hey Garus,
Ooh rah - that sounds like a great idea and I might be in touch about
additional questions when I get to it.
Thanks,
Mike
