Here is a clip from the Friday afternoon qualifying session. It rained as we sat on the grid and I never could find a good rain line so just struggled around the normal line:

Looking at the yellow Jabro early in the clip that's about how it was for me and it was a real struggle to get any power down.

This was my final session for the weekend. I came in with a noisy differential and repaired that, then next morning drove the car and heard some horrible noises out of the gearbox which was, ultimately, consigned to history. Nevertheless it was a good weekend--SP is a fun track.

Michael:

Great stuff! Fun to see the track from a different car. They took the rear out of that Jabro later on (I have a picture of them removing it on my page below).

Would you mind if I linked your video on my Jefferson 500 page? (below)

~HERE is my Jefferson 500 webpage~ of pictures and videos from the event.

Brian Redman was there. A lovely man; we talked about Yorkshire beers for a while. And Leeds (my birthplace). Also Bill Scott and son, Jens were on hand of course. I got a chance to talk to Ray Stone and see his amazingly fast Bugeye in our race (I told him I've been following his antics since I was in high school....he laughed). Randy Canfield and Joe Hauser were there too (not racing). I saw a familiar looking guy walking around but could not recall the name. As I thought about it later, I'm pretty sure it was Kent Prather. Had a long chat with Roger Allard, talking about his "new" Allard J2s. There was also a reunion of racers that had run at the old Marlboro track (that's why Stone was there), so lots of old-timers with good stories. They had lots of old photos and played an excellent 8mm film in one of the buildings.

Good time!

Next event is ~New Hamphshire Vintage~ on May 15-17.

Nial--

Link away, just spell my name correctly! And BTW that is Ray Stone screaming by me in the fast red/white bugeye.

Sorry to hear of your car troubles, Michael.

Steve went out on drys for that Friday afternoon session and came in after about two laps. There was no way he could improve upon the morning time, which was good for third on the grid, so he just came in.

Saturday, Steve ended up third behind Stone and a Lotus 11 in the dry after a good dice with Stone. The other Elva Courier that was in first came in for some reason.

I didn't go up on Sunday. Steve got a first in the pouring rain after passing Stone at one, I think. In-car video coming.

It was a great weekend despite the weather.

Wow Michael! Every video you post is fantastic! I really love the in car shot, and most of all, the sound of that Elva! Great Video for sure!

John--

I would not have gone out on Friday afternoon in the rain except for the fact that timing and scoring had mixed up their data from the morning session and claimed that they had not gotten a reading from my transponder even though they had times for me, so I had to get a time in order to get a grid position. As it was it was all for naught due to the busted box.

The good news is that I just finished installing the spare transmission and put the engine back in and all seems good. It was not a "slip-in" job as the first gearbox had a 23-spline input shaft versus a 10-spline for this one, the clutch cylinder location was different, the bell housing needed to be ground out to accomodate the competition clutch cover, and a gusset on the bottom of the box needed to be notched but 8 hours and a lot of aluminum dust later it all came together.

Michael, what final drive ratio are you using in the video?

who was the driver of the #63 SP250???

Dale:

The official entry list -HERE- does not list him. I assume he came late in the event because Tivvy was doing tech on him Saturday (when I snapped those photos). I have few more pictures of that car but they're at home. Will post them when I get a chance.

Dale--

His name is Joe (last name escapes me) who I had previously met at some area LBC events. I could be wrong but I don't think he was racing and perhaps that picture was taken prior to touring laps? Joe told me he is doing the VRG Driver's School next week at NHIS so if nothing else I will find out then.

John--

4.2:1 Spridget rear.

Maybe Joe was having Tivvy pre-tech it prior to next week's NHIS event to which he said he was going? I dunno for sure but I still don't believe he ran.

I know that guy, his name is Joe, Joe Walsh...................I think he played guitar for some band popular in the 70's-80's, had a brief solo career. Pretty laid back guy if you know what I mean.

Dougie

Wel he did have a "Joe Walsh For President" sticker on the bumper--maybe you're right!

Since the Jefferson 500 was also the Marlboro Reunion this year, Steve Lloyd, DC Region SCCA Historian, asked for cars that had actually raced at Marlboro to make some parade laps. The black SP250 was one of these cars. Joe did a few parade laps, but did not race.

Dale--

Contrary to earlier surmise on the part of Dougie and myself Joe's last name is NOT "Walsh"--it is "Dockman". He is from Baltimore so perhaps you know him. He is pictured standing alongside the car as Tivvy checks it out.

Michael- I was going to say that, too. Dockman is a neighbor -sort of- but I did not remember the number on his new-to-him race SP. Say hello for me if you see him at NHIS. He has made the trip to the LANCO Gettysburg show a couple of times with me, in his red "driver" SP, so you might have seen him there. He had 2 SP's at the Allenberry MOM show last year.
