Just got my new Sumitomo HTR 200's in (175/70 R13's on a SWA car), mounted and balanced on the old Rader wheels that I have. Pics coming soon. Started looking around for a reputible body shop to do some body work, prime and shoot the car with a toyota/lexus pearlized white. This weekend the 1275 comes out and I am going to start test fitting a mazda 13b and 5spd tranny.

Progress has been slow....but steady. Need things to cool off a bit again so I can spend some serious time on the car..... too bad my job and studying for the ARE keep getting in the way.

Thanks...
I have been wondering if it is advisable at all to try and put 175/70 on a 4" wheel.

I know the tire question flares up on this site like weed now and then, so I will not make this thread into yet another tire thread since you have more intersting things going on with your sprite.

I recall running those tires on my car (when it was on the street) 10 years ago. They look great and are OK (but not super) for handling. They wear very well...maybe a little too well for a light car.

I have seen ~THIS~ Madza Midget in person (he ran at one of our Time Trials). Very neat (and fast) but he said when all was said and done, it was a very complex job.

I have read quite abit about the RX-Midget. Looks like a great car and yes VERY fast....and also beyond my abilities and wallet. Appearance wise, my sprite is going to stay pretty close to stock with a few changes. I am going to run a stock or mildly ported 13b that is naturally aspirated. Should put me in the 150hp range and can be a very reliable powerplant. In addition to the mazda engine and transmission I am looking at having an rx7 rear axle narrowed and redrilled for the midget/sprite bolt pattern and a shortened drive shaft. no custom 4 link or anything like that.

You using the basic 13B and can you get it under the bonnet without changing it?

I love the wankel engines and have a friend who is bugging me all the time that I should re-engine my Midget with one.

yeah with a racingbeat intake manifold and a side draft carb it will clear the hood. Havent determined if I will go with a 4 port or 6 port 13b...depends on what I find. I am actually thinking of running a different intake with a holley carb, a carb hat with a cold air intake ducted to the opening where the old hose for the heater would be....assuming it will fit under the hood. If I had purchased a better or more complete car then I probably would be sticking with a BMC A-series engine, but since my car is sort of piecemealed I dont feel so bad about swaping out the drive train.

After driving a '60 Bugeye and seeing the reactions it got I had to go to the bugeye bonnet. Going to have some vents cut in it to help evacuate the heat from the rotary engine and will probably go with a forward tilt hinge set up as well.

Thanks!

I always thought louver style vents on the bonnett sides behind the front wheels would look good and work good. Never tried it out tho..

I have seen a bugeye with side louver vents. At idle you could definitely feel a steady stream of warm air exiting through the vents.

guys,

any pics of the bonnets with the louvered vents on the side?

I was thinking about putting slots on the top of the bonnet inline behind the headlights with a like a fine wire mesh or perforated metal behind.

No pictures, but the guy grafted the louvers into the bonnet from an old welder case. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
