Yeah, I think this is a lot more complex than that.

I remember being at a swap meet and my friend picking up this manual, laughing at the dates on it and saying "no wonder the British Car Industry sank".

All the fault of the TR7, the triumph sports car that sold more than any other model of the TR line =P

It wasnt the fault of any particular car, it was disfunction at british layland that really did it in. There's a good article on the triumph stag v8, and how it was symbolic of the dysfunction in BL at the time, all the infighting between the various divisions and the internal politics.

Check out Jeremy Clarkson's two-part video on said demise. It was everybody's fault. Old boy management, greedy unions, etc.

Probably had nothing to do with the widespread corruption among executives, union bosses, suppliers (remember the gasket contractor who was supplying BMC/Jaguar with "cork" gaskets that were actually sawdust?), and dealers.

Roll most of a nation's automotive industry into one big company and it's bound to fail. Heck, roll it into three companies, and they are all bound to fail on a long enough timeline -- just look at Ford, GM and Chrysler. Has a lot to do about inbreeding of leaders within the industry.
