Is it a 76 or 75 Midget?

In my youth I had a Tahiti blue Midet that I loved. The title said it was a 76. It had a 25th Anniversary logo embedded in the dash and a shift knob that had the MG logo enameled in blue. So was it a 76 or 75? Was the shift knob standard? Do I have any hope of finding another one for my newly purchased 75? Thanks, Cindy

i also have a 75 in tahati blue. The shift knob on mine is plain old black (plastic) and not very fancy. I like the looks better of the walnut one in my 79, and that knob will soon live in my 75.

I dont know about the originality of your knob , but i bet someone here does, and will be along shortly. as far as the title goes, It may have been titled in the year it was sold, not the year of manufacture. By the dash i would say it was a 75

Er...twenty fifth anniversary of what? What happened in 1950 or 51? If you know the VIN # it's pretty easy to figure out. Tahiti Blue was available until '77, so that's no help. Did it possibly have the side stripes with the word "Special" on them? IIRC, this was a '76-only dealer applied special equipment package. My old yellow '76 had this package.

In 1975 BL decided to celbrate the 50th anniversary of MG cars...they introduced a car to commemorate that event though it was not anything special - they just put an embossed MG logo on the dashes of every '75 made after a certain date...if the padding of the dash is indented for the logo, that's what it is....not worth any more than any other '75, '76, '77 or whatever!
...Tahiti Blue was a multi-year paint offered in those years...Pageant Blue wasn't offered till '79.

I have a Midget in my garage exactly as you describe (color and all)...25th Anniv is inlaid into the dash...but I also bought one new in 1976 that did not have inlaid 25th. Neither one had/has a special knob on the shift lever. I must assume that the original owner added it or even the dealer added it. Blue enamel to match the paint color; I vaguely remember at some point in my life reading an advertisement for shift knobs in various colors; someone has them. But there are so few MG dealers now (like none!!!) that it will be a Moss or JC Whitney or someone that will have it now.
 
OOops... that is not a 25th .. it is a 50th. I guess my old-timers memory has taken another hit. I walked out to the garage and looked at the Midget and saw "1925 to 1975" on the label; a little more than 25 years, but still the same point.

back in those days, MGs were left sitting at the dealers for years and they never had nay real "year" to them. if the car was manufactured in 1975, but didnt sell until 1979, the dealer titled it as a 79.
 
so i would guess the question is how many cars have the 50th dash in them?
 
Every MG built in 1975 after January had different coloredbadges...every MG for North America made after June '75 had the dash badge....they're nothing special!
