I bought a new convertable top from Moss. How tough is it to install? Should I leave it to a professional? I have never put one on before.

I guess your post shows you and I that most of the members pay shops to do this kind of work. Its sad to see. I plan to install my own BJ8 top later this summer once the interior is finished.

Keoke,
For once I agree with you, actually, maybe several times. I've seen many a car running around with DIY upholstery & tops. Not to say that it can't be done, but 99% of them look just like what they are. Maybe ok on a low dollar driver, but not on a high quality car.

There are just a lot of inside tricks of the trade, tools, & knowledge gained from hard experience that give a good trim shop a noticeable advantage on the end result.

HI DR, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif and there are some very good convertible top trimers who are not familiar with the Healey and can't do it right. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif---Keoke

What makes it difficult? That was the original question asked in this thread. Just saying "take it to a trim shop" is somewhat vague and not helpful to DIY's.

Anything can be done by an individual correctly as long as they seek knowledge of that task and have the patience and determination to get it done right. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

How would I go about getting you, Dave Russell, or Editor Reid to share your knowledge on this subject?

Hi DK,
The original question was:

The answer was it's pretty difficult to DIY.

You can install your top if you wish. Good luck, remember that on some parts you only get one try.

I don't have any good knowledge to share. My earlier tries & the experiences of others have led me to the trim shop for this sort of work.

If it is any help, go here:
