I just found the original owners insurance card...

In the truck of the MG. at least I assume it's the original owner. The car was built in 4 /1973 and the insurance card was issued 6-21-74.
It's a fairly local address (15 miles). Would it be weird to knock on there door or call them? I would love to have a couple questions answered about the car. But, I don't want to freak them out..... Advice?

You might write them a letter of introduction and ask if it would be OK to contact them, or have them contact you.

That's 21 years difference. Anyways, I agree with Mickey. Include your phone number and ask that they contact you if interested. Maybe write it on the backside of a picture of the car.

I'd be a little more brave/bold ... ... respectfully knock on the door at the address and ask if Mr or Mrs Jones live there. If they say yes, I'd introduce myself and tell them about the car. If they say no, I'd say a car I just bought had a paper with this address in it and I was hoping to the previous owner(s). Then I'd apologize for bothering them and politely excuse myself. Either way, no harm, no foul.....you don't know if you don't ask.

Nearly 40 years, I'd guess there's a better than even chance they no longer live there. You can look up the name and address online to confirm or not. If they are still there and the car can be made easily to run, what better way to get the door open than to take it over.

Hey guys,
Today I drove the twenty miles to the address given on the insurance card. I took a winding road up and around a couple swimming pools and tennis courts. The asphalt road just barely two cars wide. I noticed lots of newer homes as i drove through the sub division. The whole time im wondering what to say. How do i begin? How would you? Finally theGPS says I'm at my destination. . I look around and sadly im in the middle of a small intersection with four roads small roads riss crossing and a stop sign at each side. The house is supposed to be on the right. But, the only thing i can see are road closed signs " no through traffic". Dang, a literal fead end.
Thats when i notice a house number to the right rear of the stop sign. The address reads 114....but, im looking for 115. So I proceed through the intersection " if you can call it that and of course the need are going down. So urn around on the the tiny u-turn strip between the oddly converging roads. Back at the intersection four street signs read different names. Of course the one looking for I'd the blocked dead end.
With no other real. Notice I park on the dead end (blocked by cement flower planters). I think to myself when I leave I'm going to have to back out into the middle of the intersection.
So I park and lock my car, judging by the little speeding rattle traps passing by, the area has probably seen better days. Hopefully , I won't get a ticket for parking the street?
As I approach the house more of a condominium .

As I approach the older brick door way. Im reminded of how much it looks like what I think a small community in England would look like. With a brick building face and a door with a single window connected to another brick building with a single door and window ( of course I have never been to England so who knows why I think it looks like England?).
As I approach the building I see number 115. A plain looking door with a window to the right. A small table and lamp with white curtains peer back at me from the darkened home. I lightly knock on the door.... No answer. I knock a little louder.... Still no answer. I realize there is a brass door knocked staring blankly at me. I firmly grab the knocker and rap it against the door.
Nope. Nobody home.
I looked around thinking just my luck... No body home. That's when I said to myself "self" I'm here maybe a neighbor knows if she lives here. I look around quickly toseed If anybody saw me talking to myself, nope no witnesses. Relieved I walk a few feet down and lightly knock on the door to 116. To my surprise an elderly lady opens the door and looks at me quizzically.
I introduce myself, and say "'this might seem like an odd question". But," Do you know if mrs. ------ still lives next door"? She stares at me blankly for a second and I continue with my explanation. I tell her I bought an old car last year and recently found the former owners name in it. She listened and That's when the oddest thing happened.
Her eyes lit up and said, " you mean that old little car that used to sit out back?"

BRB... Got to go on another call... Dang it. More later...

The neighbor remembered the car as sitting out back I the condominium. She said it sat there under a cover for ever. But, she didn't actually know what kind it was. Or what had happened to it.
****I assume this is about the time it was taken to the car repair shop where it was found by the guy it bought it from*****
She informed that the lady was not home and that she worked fifty miles away. He also said she doesnt get home until around 9 pm. She said she would be happy to give her my number and sk her to call me. We talked a few more minutes and I showed her a couple of the pictures I posted online with my 7 yr old daughter in the car. It was a good meeting and I left with a lot of anticipation waiting for the call.
I'm still waiting. But, it is a holiday so.....I'll keep you posted

She listened and That's when the oddest thing happened.

"From over her head she produced a large cast iron skillet. She brought the skillet down upon my head with such force, her feet briefly rose off the ground. "Such a nice young man", she said, "He'll make good company".

She then drug my limp lifeless body across the threshold and proceeded to dismember my corps joint by joint." :laugh:
