I am selling my XJ6

Hi there. I'm new here and have a question. I have a 1986 XJ6 that is in beautiful condition. It has brand new tires, paint job, the interior is gorgeous and very well preserved, and I look terrific driving it (so my hubby says). But we want to sell it. Can anyone tell me what the going rate of that year and make would be? Is $5,000 too much to ask or too little? What is the Kelly Blue Book? Should I hold out for maybe more?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome Stormwillow,

I too had a beautiful 1986 XJ6... State Farm was kind enough to pay me around $6000 when a friend totalled the car. The interior was far from perfect, but average I'd guess. The paint was fair from a distance. The car had 43,000 miles when it was wrecked. It sounds as though your car may be in better shape than mine was when I paid over $5000 to purchase it. That year (85 through 87) is very desirable to Jag enthusiasts and is regarded to be the most perfected of the true (original) XJ Saloons. They typically value higher than the 1988-1994 XJ's and are considered, right or wrong, the last of the *true* Jaguars. Hold out for $6000 for a while, then take a reasonable offer if it comes along. If I were in the market, I'd gladly pay more than $5000 for a very clean and original XJ6. Anyway, I would consider $5000 to be the lowest price you should accept, that is if you have time to wait for a Jag nut like me to come along.

Best of luck,

Brian, I noticed that you have had 2 XJ6 "saloons". Indiana must have a lot more liberal interpretation of DUI laws than Alabama. Do the saloons have party tables for the rear seats like Rolls? Best regards and /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif, Jack

Jack,

Glad to see you back, it has been a while! My 1986 Saloon, as I call it, actually met its demise at the hands of a local politician.... he, against my knowledge, took the Saloon title a bit too seriously. My car made the paper the morning after I let him drive it and its unfortunate trip into the drainage ditch eventually cost the Township Advisor his office. Brake failure, I have always believed, was the true cause of the accident, but the local police thought that my friend should have left the Saloon at the saloon..... I was tempted to leave out the fact that I was the passenger and had asked him to drive since I had downed a few beers before leaving the bar that night.
So, in short, you're not too far off on the party table idea.... that particular night, the party was in the front seat (then quickly proceeded to the winshield) and was cut short by a sudden stop, followed by a trip to the county jail... my .05 BAC (quite low) landed me, right or wrong as a passenger, in the drunk tank. Those charges were not filed however, and I set about on my search for a new Saloon, the 1993 in my picture. My friend, much to my dismay, continued on a downward spiral and is no longer an elected official. He is, however, currently a guest of our County Correctional Facility for the next eleven months. Maybe when he gets out I'll help him look for a Saloon of his own.. I'll call a cab the next time.
Good to see you back in here... I received a complete set of carbs with all those mysterious fittings that were missing for the coupe. One step closer to getting it back on the road! I'll need your advice if you're available, but I'll start a new thread for that.

Cheers,

Brian /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif (I'll stop at two, I promise!)

Stormwillow,

Have you had any bites on the XJ6? Just curious how the sale was going.

Cheers,

Brian
