Due to health reasons I just had to cancel my plans to race the Elva at this year's SVRA event at Sebring. I had a house rental set up for the week of March 15-21. It is a real nice place--I rented it last year for the first time--in Lake Placid, about 20 minutes south of the track and has four bedrooms.
Accomodations in and around Sebring are probably impossible to get at this late date unless you are content to stay at some Mom and Pop fleabag motel 50 or more miles from the track up busy US 27, and then you must fight the traffic and crowds to get to the track in the morning and unless you are content with track food for several straight days, fight to eat in the few restaurants that usually close around 7:00 or 8:00 PM and struggle back to the Hot Pillow Joint arms.
This home rents for $1200.00 for the week and is fully equipped. I usually drive down from Maryland and arrive Sebring/Lake Placid on Monday, spend Tuesday morning shopping at the market nearby the house and then going to the track midday and get registered and the rig parked in the SVRA paddock and the car tech inspected. Wednesday is practice day and then Thursday-Saturday are the SVRA main events: Thursday--mock tech on the circle downtown with SVRA racecars being police-escorted from the track to The Circle downtown where the whole town turns out to see the cars, talk to the racers, etc. and then back to the track, a real blast; then end of day do the one hour twilight enduro whichh combines both vintage and historic cars into a large, hairy field; Friday features the 30 minute Sprint race in the morning; and Saturday they do track touring for SVRA cars only immediately before the 10:00 AM start of the main 12 hour race--very cool as perhaps 50K people are there and actually sober paying attention to our little cars go around the track at speed, followed by the 10:00 AM start for the 12 hour feature race. I usually stick around Saturday to watch the big boys race till they finish at 10 PM and then I shove off for home on Sunday.
The house is located on Lake Placid, is air-conditioned and extremely comfortable for four or more adults. The landlords do NOT welcome partiers/smokers as it is their vacation house in a neighborhood. Being in a private home is really the only way to go so you don't have to deal with the great unwashed in the few places to eat available. Unfortunately I am looking at some internal surgery and will not be finished recovering until after the race so that is why I am cancelling.

BTW if you've never been to or raced at the 12 Hour festival at Sebring you need to do it--it is a great old-fashioned racing event wrapped into a Central-Florida country fair with thousands and thousands of people present, most there to get drunk, gape at the topless young Florida girls and generally carry on. OTOH a few thousand of us go there to race, crew and/or watch several days of great racing with cars of all types. Watching the Audi/Porsche/Peugeot teams is incredible. Of course you can do both.
Attached is a picture of me and the Elva following last year's Sprint race--I came in first in my run group, my first podium!
