Hot-low oil pressure / Aux. oil line problem fixed

From a previous post (last week) I was saying my new engine had low oil pressure at idle when hot, it was running at less than 25 psi. I was running a new stainless aux. oil line to the head and just switched back to my own made aux. line (plastic)that has a tube size I.D. about 1/2 of the stainless. My old line has fixed the problem I now have 40 psi. at hot idle. This backs up what alot of you have said that the aux. stainless line robs too much oil pressure, so I have found a way to keep most of the oil pressure and still provide more oil to the top end. The oil pressure is also about 10psi higher above 2000 rpm.-------------Well I got most of the bugs worked out and it is running good except for one thing, I have the dreaded oil weep out of the back distributor side of the head (between the head and block), it is slight though,--- before assembly I did apply sealer to that area and I have already re-torqued the head to 70lb---now what???

Oddly Allan, my OP stayed exactly the same, but it was always very good, even with the SS line installed.

Between removing that line and the alloy VC without a baffle, my oil consumption of one quart per 300 miles is now back to one quart about every 1,000 miles.

The head that I had completely rebuilt has new guides and o-ring type valve seals. The only decision now is to whether to save it for a more suitable block to fit it to. The jury is still out on that one.

Is there a threaded plug on the rear of the head with a sealing washer on it on your head? If so, might try cleaning and spraying with Desenex or other aerosol talcum spray to leave a leak trail to isolate the source of the leak.

I believe that on one of my heads the crush washer was deteriorated.

Thats where my Aux. line is hooked into, no leaks there. I can see the seepage on the edge of the block (between head and block).

This is what I'm doing for the same problem and probably what you will end up doing at some point.

Oh-Oh!! I just noticed that you said your "new engine". Sorry!!

Paul,

That looks so pretty it is a shame to hide it by bolting it to a block. Your wife might even like to put it in a glass showcase in the living room! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Tom, it was on my desk in the office for a total of 10 minutes while I took the pictures and the glare started from across the room. Yes, we work together in the family business.

"Car parts belong in the garage or workshop" was written all over her face, so out it went. That's about the only rule that I have to live by.

I just hope I'm there when UPS delivers the brake system from TRF, because there is gonna be a bunch of boxes when that hits.
