Paul's new powdered coated suspension pieces certainly
look sweet and professionally done. Paul is very fortunate
to have such professionals where he lives.

On the other hand, many folks do not have available powder
coating shops or maybe they don't have the $$ cash to lay
out for the pros.

I could not find any Powder guys locally so I gave it try
here at home. Internet Eastwood powders @ $50, Sears powder
gun @ $150 and a Wal-Mart $90 oven. Quite a few BCF members
have asked my about powder coating here at home.

My results may not be professional but they pass a pretty
close visual inspection. Baked on skeeters the exception.

Here's the set up I use and a photo of what a
non-professional who knows almost nothing about such
things can accomplish.

Is that a toaster oven. How bad does it stink? can it be done in a garage?

It is a small apartment oven with
full temp controls and broiler controls also.
Hot plates on top.

I have no trouble holding 400* and check
it with my IR gun.

Does not stink outside at all. In a garage I
would keep door open and use a fan to create
air movement.

You can pick up an old kitchen oven for a few dollars at a place that re-sells used kitchen appliances. This will let you do bigger parts. Two TR owners in the east (Virginia I think) do it at home. Well in a shed way down at the end of the garden - because of the smell.

Tell me it is not true, but is that a coil I see? I am surprised it did not go kaboom.

Did you run the parts through the kitchen dishwasher first?

That has gotten me in trouble with the wife more than once. I put them in the washer while she was gone and forgot to remove them before she got home.

Dale, thanks for sharing the powder coat stuff.
I gotta get by some of the more regular-type
stuff. I consider that stuff real candy.

By the way, ole Tinster, did you change the name of your
car? AMOS????

Has Crypty gone by the way side? Guess I've been a bit out of the loop. Oh, and I've got to tell you -- I do like your
taillights. Very funny.

Wrench-

I figured with the Crypt Car broke down and on jack
stands 99.9% of the time; with me having to take it
apart piece by piece, bolt by metric bolt- strip off
DPO Pedro's messes down to metal anyway...........

The cost of the powder coat home kit did not really
enter the picture as significant compared to my total
repair outlays.

Crypty is still hanging tough but Amos just about has
him and Pedro kicked out of my garage.

Ah..Dale?

Just what were you doing with that coil? That was never on the car after the little color adjustment, was it?

How do you think that the parts got clean enough to powder coat in the first place??

You must use an electric stove! Powder coating lets off a flammable gas that will cause an explosion. Gas stove is too dangerous.
