HMSA Portland Historics 2009 Group # 7 Final

My second race weekend with the new motor in the Big Healey went well. A few minor bugs shorted 2 of my races. I was able to lower my average lap time by 5 seconds and set a new personal best single lap time though. All on my home track.

I did win the HMSA award for the best prepared and presented vinatage car from a field of over 200 cars at the event. It came with a nice trophy as well.

Here's the short video from my final race, 12 cars past in the first lap, overdrive slowed my progress in the heat of battle and a blown manifold gasket ended my race weekend.

Great video and 5 seconds *is* huge.

I was just looking at my lap times from the Pittsburgh Vintage at BeaveRun (last weekend) and you got me wondering if I'd gotten any better.

The last event that I had BeaveRun time charts handy for was a non-vintage club race two years ago. My car was turning mostly 1:19s with a few 1:18s.

Last weekend I ran plenty of 1:15s in the vintage event. No changes in the car (or driver) over those two years except we're both have a little more wear-and-tear.

By the way, my on-board GPS recorded a max of 101 MPH...great for a mostly-stock 1500 Midget.

Some folks say that vintage racing is not *real* racing, but I have to say, I think I'm faster when I'm surrounded by other old crocks. I know we have some slower drivers but they rarely seem to block me and and I think the more serious vintage drivers drive smoother than the club-race crowd.

Anyway, congrats! Great result!

I agree, I tend to have much better times when racing with faster cars. I like this event because I get to race with a new group of cars then they usually grid me with in SOVREN. No formula-V's, but a whole gang of Sprites which I really liked.
