HIF6/Hif44 Needle Selection

Alright experts, I would like your opinion on a needle for my HIF.

Currently, I am running the 1275 with a pertronix, a stock coil, LCB (Long Center Branch) header, 1 1/2 exhaust and Thrush muffler, MiniSpares alloy intake manifold, K&N filter, and the HIF6 has a BDL needle and Red spring. The 1275 may have a slightly hotter than stock cam (this according to the PO); if so, it's difficult for me to tell.

Car runs well, but feels a little lean. While driving, if I apply the choke to richen things up, there is a substantial increase in power. Seems I need a richer needle? Any thoughts?

I'm finishing up a 59 BE restoration with rebuilt 1275 engine, hotter cam, +40, enhanced head but am using twin SU's.

I do have a HIF44 carb but I'll be putting that one after I get the car up and running. But in researching the carb, recommendations went to the BDL needle. But can't say if it works or not.

Very interested in what you hear from others. Also, in the future I'll be in touch with you about problems/issues installing the HIF44 carb.
Will need some advice.

Bruce, I had seen your posts on this, and wondered what might be going on.

I think you are correct in getting the car up and running with the twins first. This should eliminate any issues which are non-HIF specific.

Then you can approach the HIF instal fresh.
