Hey Geo - Steering Wheel Question

so what paint did you use on your JB Weld-repaired steering wheel?

Sorry -- been on the floor of the garage fighting the clutch hydraulics on the TR4.

I started with a primer coat (clear) using a product called 'Bulldog Adhesion Primer' sez 'makes paint stick to plastic'... manufactured by 'Klean-Strip'.

Top coat was gloss black SEM brand 'Flexible Coating' for 'most flexible & rigid plastics'.

Both products came from an auto paints store.

I tried Krylon Spray Black Paint for Plastic and it did just the same as regular black spray as well as clear coat spray. None of it would level. It was all pimply.

Nope. But I've used the PC7 stuff that they are using to fill the cracks before in a different application. Pretty much the same idea as JBweld. 2 part epoxy that dries nice and plastic-like... can be sanded down after it hardens to get the curves you are looing for without the need to be crazy with accuracy when you slop it on.

So the kit is pretty much the same as what Geo has done and I'm planning to do but more expensive. If you *need* that much JB weld they sell it in cans at Home Depot, etc. I'm thinking a pair of the regular tube will be plenty to fill the cracks in mine.

Did you use some kind of primer like the one listed above?

No I didn't. It's all sanded off again ready to try something better. The JB Weld I used to fill the split has worked fine. The split was about 7" long and about 1/8" wide tapering down to a point at each end of the split. It is well hidden on the back of the steering wheel down near the bottom.
