HELP! Wheel brake cylinder clip

There must be some trick to installing the wheel cylinder retaining clip on the wheel cylinder assembly. What is it?

Patience and practice.

It can be a challenge. Orient the clip so the "curve" is convex in relation to you as you look at it from the line connection side of the backing plate. Capture the cylinder with the clip prongs, use a blunt drift and a six ounce ball-pean to whack it into compliance. :wink:

Also if you put the wheel cylinder in place and take a pair of vice grips. Attach the vice grips to the rear hub just right and the grips will put pressure against the cylinder holding it in place till you get the silly clip on. Sound like it makes sence the way I discribe it? I can take a car apart and get a pic if needed. Bob

Doc, as a point of fact, Many times the hammer is the correct tool. However, selection and application of the CORRECT hammer is what separates "the men from the boys" Should you ever need to know (because this is given out on a strict need to know basis), I will share the secret to using an air hammer to change the Jag XJS/XJ6 ac expansion valve. Without breaking the evaporator...

Well, generally by the time I need to "break out the fix" they have self evacuated. So far, no body armor, but usually some customer crying. Maybe I need a kleenex dispenser??
