Help taking apart the generator please.

Can someone tell me how to remove the armature from the front plate? I have the rest of the generator apart and just need this so that I can blast and powder coat the case. Thanks,

Why bother?? I'd use chemical stripper on it and leave it aluminum. Same with the brush plate.

I am sending my generator in for an upgrade rebuild. This will eventually be taken apart for new bearings, but I am just taking it apart to blast and powdercoat before I send it in so I can save some money. If this piece was normally left aluminum, I will leave it that way. So, was this piece normally just left unpainted?

You need a small two or three arm gear puller to pull the alum. cover off with the bearing. The arms go in the end vent openings and grab the bearing housing so the large alum. plate doesn't flex which will break it. The bearings are cheap and will wear out or oval out the housing if the fan belt is run too tight. Any gen rebuild shop will have the right type of puller. Or Sears, Harbor Freight.

I've seen them unpainted and painted. I believe rebuilts are painted but don't recall on the original's or different models. I believe the original BE's were green. Some one with a Horlers will probably be able to give you good info if you are going for concours. As was mentioned the front bearing plate is fragile and I've only had one gen front bearing fail that I recall. That was a learning experience and after that I always run the belt very loose. It dosen't take much to drive the gen and I've never noticed any undue wear on the pulleys.

Thanks. After reading your replies, I think I will leave the plate aluminum and let the rebuild guy deal with pulling it apart.
