Heater valve

Offline
It leaks... go figure. it looked newer so i did not replace it. Big mistake. After a couple of heat cycles it runs right out when opened, and only drips when shut... or the other way around. The question is what is the favored way of repairing? I am aware that i can cut it off and pipe tap it, grab a ball valve and plumb it in... but then i may loose the cabin control.

Thought opinions and ideas????

I don't know what the heater valve looks like on an MG, but for my TR6 I used a non-standard heater valve and it work so much better than the original. I got the info off of BobbyD's website. Since the control is on the top, the valve operates smoothly. The valve is made by Murry and the part number is 74648. Thought I'd pass on the info in case it fits the MG's.

Elliot's conversion can work, IIRC that is a Ford part from a six-banger F-100 series.

I'd replace it with the available replica from Moss, tho. There was a period when the things were Unobtanium but I believe that's now changed.

In the On-board Spares Kit there's a blanking plate, small Jubilee clamp and a sparkplug, to shunt off a leaking heater valve. It'll get ya home... shivering, but home.

Elliot, Am I correct in assuming it screws into the head, giving a rigid mount? I'm trying to come up with an idea for my TF heater shut off that is kinda out of site. PJ

Yes Paul... this heater valve screws into the pipe coming off the engine just like the original. It's a "plug'n play" and in my opinion works better. As a side note, I also removed the detent ball from inside the heater cable.... now it is infinitely adjustable without the "stops" built into the original heater cable; it makes for smoother operation of the heater valve.

You are correct doc. They also used it on a lot of AMC cars as well.
