Does any one know, off hand, the square footage needed to re-do the interor (fire wall, trans cover and floor) with the thin insulating foil on a BJ8?

Don't have a clue TH. Buy a whole roll and you will be certain to have enough,---Keoke--- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

th,if you purchase 37.5 sq' youll have a little waste, but youll be able to cover the entire floor and make it over the "hump" trans tunnel.rough lenght from front to back=6.25'x rough width 6.0'= 37.5sq'these measurements are generous so youll make it.now well have all the math guys jumpin out of the boot! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gifid love to sell keoke carpeting for his house!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yep TH, buy carpet direct from the southern mills by the roll too its cheaper that way.---Keoke-- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A guy I just met offered to supply me with some Silver Lining Insulation free. It reflects 97% of radiant heat and is paper thin. I intend to use it over (or under) the existing Moss insulation I put in last year. I don't want to be greedy so I only want what I need. So thanks for the estimate. I'll ask for 38 sq ft.

OK TH, If its thin it might be best to place it under the Moss stuff to protect it,-Just a guess.---Keoke

TH, what brand is this Silver Lining Insulation? What is this stuff made of? Is there a link, or contact for this product?

Check the archives ASUMHLY, there are a bunch of people that make a variety of these type materials listed there.---Keoke

Thank you Keoke. I started a few of those posts in the archives. I am wonedering what TH is using. Maybe a brand or product not discussed prior. Cheers.

AUSMHLY,IFIN that fellow TH ,is gettin sumpin free ain't nobody else in the world heard about it but him.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif
OH!AUSMHLY, I am forgetting something. If you prefer to use a filler type material JB Weld will work for you. However, it is a bit slow in that it must cure. On the otherhand, you can smooth it with a wet finger after it firms up a bit--- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Ausmhly, these people do house insulation up here and have several thicknesses with everything from bubble wrap to fiberglass bonded foil. They have two types of paper thin foil. One is perforated to eliminate the moisture that gets trapped, and one is not. I beleive they both come with or without adhesive. They say it is two shets of industrial grade aluminum to provide a reflective surface. Their info sheet says it reflects 97% of radiant heat. I'm sure it is 97% hype but its free and if it helps any, why not? The Moss stuff helped a great deal. But its like ice cream. You can never have enough. I liked the fact that it is so thin and won't raise the carpets.

Here I go again plugging a builders supply house but Lowes sells the foil backed insulation in small rolls. I used 2 rolls in my car. I also used one roll of the foil tape to tape it togther with. Skip

th,what no one is telling you is that alot of this stuff touts a heat reflective index of 97%,that performance is also predicated on what is used as a secondary layer,in other words it may reflect 97% of the heat when its covered with aluminum siding, additional plastic covering etc,i like what keoke said, use it under the stuff that moss and others sell to be sure,or get hold of the product data sheet to make sertain youll use it correctly, alot of the sound proofing stuff works the same way,it may only work to speck.in conjunction with required secondary covering. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

How about the insulation board that is attached to the fire wall side and between the carbs and manifold? Does anyone know a better source than Moss?

Yep, try "Home Depot" they have a non asbestos board that you cut to shape youself.Use the original ones on the car as templates---Keoke

OK TH, if you can glue the stuff down put a layer inside the tunnel and another on the outside. Be sure that the one you get does not have any holes in it.Its ok if the moisture comes in but we wanna keep the heat out!---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's called Hardibacker. Here's a link with more info on the product. You can score and break it for straight cuts.

Hi John, I knew you knew the name of the stuff but what took you so long to get here.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I agree. I used an aluminized heat barrier cloth on the inside of my transmittion tunnel and on the outside of the tunnel I used a different product. Low-E insulation. The Low-E insulation has foil on both sides.

Photo attached of the inside of the tunnel.
