Healey Fuel Injection System

Just returned from the TECHNOCLASSICA - one of Europe's largest classic car and parts exhibition taking place in Essen / Germany.
UK Healey parts specialist AHSPARES had a stand there where they first time presented their FIE system for Healey 6 cylinder.
They claim their system will do lots of good things to performance, economy, reliability and also has been extensively tested. Their initial design keeps the original manifold, a new manifold is currently under development.
The complete kit I was told will cost under 3000 GBP and shortly will appear on their web site.
The installation on their demo car looked very professional to me - have a look yourself.

It never ceases to amaze me that companies are still able to reproduce parts, and develop new ones, for the Austin-Healey -- a limited-production car that hasn't been built in almost 40 years -- and presumably still make a profit doing it. (Although I will say that at a price of nearly 3000 GBP, they shouldn't have to sell too many to make some money on it!)

In any case, it bodes well for the future of our hobby that parts suppliers are continuing to invest money in development. I wish my friends at AH Spares the best with it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Hly 3000,I wonder if they have included a "Check Engine Light" too, just couldn't live with out one.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yep, everytime that light comes on I get out and check the engine. It has always been there. No problem yet. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif And if you just keep on /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif it will get tired of burning and go OUT!---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

healy3000,i agree with editor reid,at roughly $5000.00 they wont have to sell very many, for that amount or less you can have the engine rebuilt and makuni carbs put on, at least in my neck of the woods. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Interesting, do you know where they have placed the computer ? And did they have a temp sensor on the exhaust manifold ? I think that the SU carburettors are pretty bullet proof, I think that power is the key word here.
I think that this looks pretty good, for me it is important that it is possible to convert it back to original with SUs.

For $5,000, I could put a bunch of things in front of fuel injection on the list. What, besides a marginal(?) performance gain, would you get for that money?

Well, you wouldn’t have to mess with the choke anymore. What’s that worth? $20?

I suspect that this would bolt on AFTER the other bunch of things.... For ÂŁ3K I could get all of the high performance Denis Welch bits and pieces I'd want for a street car, apart from an alloy head... and that'd be the next step....

That’s exactly what I was thinking as I wrote that. Can you imagine a blueprinted engine that you could rev, without too much worry? An aluminum head would be next…along with some roller cam followers…oh, and that beautiful valve cover everyone’s been raving about, I guess I’d finish with a jet-hot coated tubular exhaust… /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
