Headremoval and thermostat..

Hi BCF Members.. Well, I rolled my sleeves and started preparation for the head removal with the ideas and help from this forum.
I pulled the head still attached to the int/exh manifold. Took a little "wiggling" and a pulley attached to a ceiling beam in my garage and up it came. The head with both manifolds is very
heavy.
Thermostat question: I live in Rancho Santa Margarita, So. Cal. The weather is very mild, considering that, what temp. thermostat should I install. Who ever had this car before was running it without thermostat. (?)
Sorry for no pictures but my camera decided to not turn on, its not the battery. May be I need a new camera!
The work continues..

You should contact British Car Specialists in Stockton, CA. They have an original style sleeved thermostat that you need. I have a 160 degree, and the engine runs at about 180. Make sure your radiator is clean and functioning.

Re: Head removal and thermostat..

Thank you Tim: I spoke with Moss and they suggested the 160C the original with sleeve and it is on its way. The radiator, I may remove and have it rebuilt etc.. Will need some one here in Orange County Ca. that does radiators..

I think 320degF (160degC) might run a little hot in SoCal.

IMO, the 160degF thermo is too cool. The heater/defroster will be even more anemic, and running too cool will crud up the oil (though, realistically, on warm days you'll be running 180-200degF anyway). I run a 180degF thermo year-round, all over western North America.

Moss recommends the 160degF 'with sleeve' because that's what they sell. The 'original with sleeve' came in several temps, inc. 180 AFAIK.
