...plumbing like this? This is how I bought my 73 TR6 several years ago. Extra hose comes from the block drain and T's in with the manifold hose before the water pump. Car does not run hot. Can't imagine why anyone would do this? When I got it the car didn't have the rad deflectors or a thermostat; maybe thats why? Anyway I plan on correcting this before the summer. Any ideas?

Well, the mod would help keep crud from building up around #6, possibly improving cooling in that area. But I doubt you'll see any immediate difference with it removed. It wouldn't help with overall cooling IMO, only with keeping #6 at the same temp as the others.

Maybe they plumbed in a block heater at some point. My 4A parts car had a garden hose setup to a 110v block heater similar to yours.

...and unless that hose is made of Kryptonite or something really strong, having it run right past a hot exhaust manifold looks to me like a major coolant loss just waiting to happen!

Looks like you have a fun weekend ahead of you, ripping that lot out and replacing with the correct hoses, etc.

The emission stuff is about normal from each carb to the carbon cannister and the top hoses from the valve cover are about right. It appears that someone has bypassed the stainless steel pipe going behind the intake as well as the pipe through the intake with red heater hose?

Mine is just a bit worse with 3 carbs.
