Hard Brake Lines

for my '68, I am interested in replacing the lines that run from the "T" on the differential that go to each wheel cylinder - the ones that run along the axle.

Are these a standard thread/angle that I would find at an auto parts store? If so, I could just pick up some of those pre-made lines and slap them on for a few dollars. I don't want to buy the whole big $100+ brake line kit from Moss or the like. I just figure while I had these off, I may as well replace if feasible. If it's not feasbile, I'll just clean these up and put them back on.

You can use those lines IF you have a flaring tool to re-flare them with, then you can re-use the original fittings on the new lines (threads are different!). Purchase of a flaring tool would be cheaper than a hard-line kit and you would have it for future line replacement!! (Sears has a nice tool!) :wink:

Yes, might just be a good idea to get the flare tool. I'll check into that. I also know you can rent them from stores such as Autozone :wink:

I did all my lines my self. Used all the old fittings, (Spun em on a wire wheel first (They looked new.) all in all the lines fit excellent when I was done and still look great! Borrowed the correct tool from a freind. Whole job was less than $30 and worth not waiting for the pre-bent kit.

Kevin, I have a flaring tool and a tube bender(not that you need one, but it makes nicer bends)you can borrow.

hi just to chime in with a word of warning
I had my front brakes freezing up and not letting off after alot of work it turned out that the Brake light switch was to far in and not letting the brake off all the way. hope that helps

I got one at harbor freight tools that has the added peices for both type of flares.
