Happy wife!

Getting some miles on the fresh motor and things look good. Shirley and I went for a 100+ mile ride last evening and the only problem is that the car is plastered with bugs. Had a deer within a few feet of the car but seen him in time and was able to stop before he crossed the road. Shirley enjoys the car at least as much as I do and she is really happy it is running again.

It is so much more fun driving the car with it running properly. I am very happy with the cooling and the temp stays just on the right side of the first mark (second if the left most mark is counted). It used to run over the center mark. I wonder if it had anything to do with rebuilding my own pump and carefully setting the vane to housing spacing.

The head has been re-torqued and the valves adjusted and it will be time for the second oil change by Monday.

There was one problem with the speedometer cable. I changed it because it had the EGR counter and two cable setup. The first speedometer cable, a gray one, did not fit right and had to get a second one. I ordered one overnight from VB. Shipping was about 4 times the cost of the cable but I wanted it bad enough. The new cable fits much better and the quality seems superior. Good thing too, I was underestimating the speed (considerably).

Dang Tom! A hundred miles driving in one night?
That's purely a miracle.

I got 67 miles total during the entire year 2006.

Color me green with envy!!

Enjoy it, you deserve it.

Tom,
Where did you buy the first speedo cable? I plan to remove the EGR counter from my car. I bought a standard cable from TRF. Now I'm wondering if it will work.
Thanks, BOBH

Bob, check your PM

Thanks guys, and I am smiling from ear to ear. It must sound pretty good. We have been having motorcycles giving us the thumbs-up! Last Saturday as we were crossing the Wisconsin River on the Merrimac Ferry another car guy was talking with us and suggested a price for our car. It was tempting, but Shirley would have no part of it, and actually neither would I.

Keep up the effort Dale, it will happen and the pain will become a distant and dimming memory.

A side note; I found a different type of exhaust clamp. It is called "Easyseal" (Made in the USA) and I got it at Bumper to Bumper. It is a flat piece of steel that makes a band that is tightened by two bolts that draw it tight. The good part is that it is great for places like the header extension where a normal clamp would deform the tubes and make it real difficult to get apart if the header needs to be removed. This clamp does not deform the pipes. If anyone seems interested I can take some photos and do a post about it. From 2 to 6 inch sizes by 1/4 inch increments.

Does anyone see the irony of using "happy wife" and "Triumph" in the same sentance?

Tom, does this mean that you will be making the trip on the Parkway this year?. Let me know and maybe we can cross paths.

Maybe mine will be running by then.

OK Paul, I will do that.

Hi Pete, the thing this year is that my had her vacation scheduled and could not change the time. We still want to take that trip and will work on a schedule for next year. It was a huge disappointment that it did not work out this year.

My wife-to-be would be happy if I would just tell her she can drive my Stag !

Decisions, decisions.
