I can say that it is wrong about the Opel Manta and Kadette having 4x4” wheels. They’re 4x100mm like on a BMW 2002.

You can’t take wheels from an Opel and use them on a Jensen Healey, Midget, Sprite, etc.

Now that you mention it, that seems weird to me too....so I did a quick search:

These two places list the Opel in both b/c sizes (4" and 100mm).

https://www.mrt-wheels.com/boltpatternref.html

https://www.alliedracingwheels.com/patternref.html

I guess I'd be *extra* careful measuring Opel wheels.

One thing one has to watch out for, is the "closeness" of 100mm and 4" patterns. I've even heard folks say that they are "interchangeable" ....but they're not, in my view (and the 98 mm FIAT wheels might seem "close enough" to fit a Sprite too....but shouldn't be used).

Pretty good list but not complete...I know Nissan 200SX & most of the early Nisson Z car wheels will fit an MGB..I ran 200SX wheels for a while

I bought a set of “Minilite”* wheels with tyres from a guy who had them on his BMW. They sure looked like they’d fit on my Jensen Healey when I measured them with a cheap ruler. They didn’t.

A precision steel rule was rather more enlightening.

Luckily they fit perfectly on my Manta and I got a lot of miles out of them.
smile.gif

I sold them cheap to a friend who also has a Jensen Healey and is planning on having them re-machined to the 4” bolt circle.

PC.

* everybody calls anything that has eight spokes “Minilites”, Superlights, Compomotives, Panasports, etc. These things say MADE IN UK on them but don’t have any brand markings. I have no idea what they really are.

Yup! I picked up a set on Ebay about a year ago. According the seller he pulled these off of his early 280Z that he was replacing with a set of original wheels. Anyway these aftermarket wheels are 14”x6" alloy and where manufactured by “Western Wheels” (wire wheel pattern). These look really cool on my 78B. Ckick & see?

Bret's B with Z wheels

I know it's kind of a roll of the dice sometimes, but you can get really lucky once in a while on ebay. I shelled out a little over $200 for these wheels. Then had the local tire store put on a set of rubber on them for another $150. I figure that I saved a heck of allot compared to a set of new minilites.

My only advice would be to check the backspacing if you can before you bid. Just because the wheels you are looking at have the same number of lugs & pattern, doesn’t mean it will always work on your car.

Yep, I once thought I could put Jensen Healey wheels on MG's - won't work....one of my local tgire guys keeps all the old 200SX & Z car wheels for me...I pick em up & stack in a corner...got a few! Backspacing on them is almost perfect...especially the turbo Z cars 15"-ers!

This is from the hotrod newsgroup....I've not verified all of it, but I did scan it and didn't see any obvious errors. May be of some use to someone looking for alternate wheels....

Lemme see if I can explain....the distance between the inner lip of the wheel & the flat surface that mates snugly to the hub....it determines how far into the wheel well or how close to the outer fender lip the wheel protrudes

Backspace is the distance from the wheels’ inside edge to the mounting surface.

Compomotive has a detailed description of wheel terms on their website.

Thanks Guys. So if I was to use a Capital I as an example, the backspacing would be the width of the right hand side. Too much and the wheel rubs on the inside, too little and it rubs on the fender. Right?

Go down to your local scrap yard & pay $10 for a used Nissam 200SX wheel...compare its backspacing to your original MGB wheel...put it on front & rear of car & see how the different backspacing works...turn steering left & right & see how the different backspacing works - that is if you have an MG
...oh, with the Nissan 200SX wheel, you can get 205's under MG fender lip - front & rear!

Pretty good list but they left off a few of the more obscure 4 x 3.75" PCD wheel applications. Here's my list:

Austin: Marina
Lotus: Elan, Europa, Seven
Triumph: Herald, Spitfire, GT6, Vitesse, TR7, Dolomite
MG: Metro, Montego, Maestro, MGF
Formula Ford Racers

Many of these were available in Europe, but rare over on this side of the pond.

Mazda Miata - all years
DeLorean - all years

But you can't interchange them due to backspacing and brake clearance issues.

You can use Honda wheels on a Miata, but must use a hub ring since the Miata is hubcentric.
