I bought an intake manifold gasket for my Elva/MGA 1600 of an ebay auction. It was pretty cheap: $5.00 plus $5.00 for shipping.

The gasket came in a "McCord Gaskets" box which is described as a subsidiary of J.P. Industries, Inc. The box is stamped "Contents Made in England" and the lettering says "Printed In USA".

Has anyone ever heard of McCord Gaskets before? The box looks like it has been sitting on someone's shelf for a while and it just seems unusual to buy a gasket made in England being sold in the US in packaging made in the US.

Whatever, it looks like the gasket will do the job....

McCord is (was?) an old time US gasket company. I suspect that, when there was a market for them, they probably sourced brit gaskets from the UK and repackaged them under their brand.

I replaced my valve cover gasket the other day. I noticed that the gasket did not fit the valve cover very well. Are the 6 cylinder cars pretty much stuck with one manufacture for these gaskets now? I have bought the kits from many different suppliers and they are all Payen brand.

Payen used to be the one we requested, as it was known to fit, maybe it just shrunk from age/drying out?
