gas leak : [

well, i come home today and as i pull in ther driveway i see gas dripping from the back of the Midge.....since id just FILLED it up a day or 2 ago and only drove 10 miles, i immediately crawl under the car and rub at the drip with a rag and it awards me with a steady blast! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
i run to grab a can and jack up the car so it fits, and proceed to "fill up my truck", as my can only holds 2 gallons!
the hole is about 1/8 inch im guessing...
the tank is now empty and i need a quick fix...
hopefully there are no more holes...didnt see any.
any ideas on how to seal this up, at least for a while?

I have had good luck on an old Ford using a sheetmetal screw to fit the hole in the tank and coated it and the hole with Phenoseal caulk. Phenoseal is water based and not affected by gas. My quicky repair lasted 3 years then I sold the car.
Mine was not a rust hole but most likely a stone hole.

There are some two part epoxies made for temporary gas tank repairs. I got mine at a local parts house. Not sure if the big auto chains carry such a product.

I would remove the tank sand the bad spot down and put an outside epoxy patch on it and then put some sealer coat on the inside like Red Kote to prevent any future leaks. I got a can or Red Kote off ebay for $30 with free shipping and have enough left to do another tank sometime.

sounds like a pain, but, considering ive already dropped the tank partially before (no stuck bolts), it shouldnt be too bad, and i can probably get red kote locally....
i dont think my tank is very dirty inside either, as the gas that came out was nice and clean......
what about spraying the bottom of the tank with bed liner after the repair? 3 or 4 coats maybe......zimmmmy

ya, ill check on that first, but once i remove it , the hard parts done as far as im concerned ; ) at least i wont need to drain it , and as hot as it is, itll be dry!
if it cost almost the same then ill run it in and get it done....thx guys,,,zzimmmy
