Fuse Box

Here is a question. Why does my 1970 Midget have a 1978 or later four fuse, fuse box in it. Not obvious that any change has been made but the only wiring diagram that matches in my Haynes Manual is the 1978 or later (this includes the extra colour wires going into and out of the box) vs. the wiring diagram for my Midget (by VIN #) which has only two fuses and two sets of wires going into it and out of it.

Don't make the mistake to assume they kept good records at the factory.

I think maybe you are looking at an incorrect diagram. My Haynes manual matches my 1970 harness fairly well.

Definitely not the wrong diagram as all the correct coloured wires are there for the post 78 while on the 70 diagram there would be extra wires?? Either the whole wiring harness was replaced with a post 78 system or something is odd with the diagrams??

OK ... look closely at the diagram. I think you'll see that the fuse box is draw in two different locations on the diagram (split), but it is actually in the same location on the car as four fuses.

You are right - I have never seen a single fuse box split into two on a wiring diagram before - never even thought to look for that. Interestingly enough, the 1978 diagram matches the split on the 70 diagram - wire position and colours.
