Front shocks

OK everyone, I need your help. I filled up the fluid in the front shocks with 80-90 wt oil, didn't need much, but when you push on the front fender the car bounces up and down like crazy. When I drive it, it floats up and down. What is the problem? The springs are new, so please help. Thanks, Jerry

Hello,
sounds like bad shocks. gear oil is not the best thing i would think to use. you may still have some air in the shck itself. You should use the same oil in both sides.

It sound like it is time to give World Wide a call. A couple of people on this forum recommended them to me and I just replaced mine. They are online, but I suggest you look at their site and call them...they are great to deal with and provide a superior product with a guarantee that can't be beat. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Never use gear lube oil in a shock. There is a special fluid for them or use mineral oil only.

I have to agree with MRBASSMAN that you don't want to use gear oil. Its viscocity is too high. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

In a pinch, I substituted motorcycle fork oil in a '70 Midget I owned years ago.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think shock oil is somewhere around a 5-10 weight oil.

Your gear lube is so heavy it may not be able to react to the movement within the shock. I'm not sure how the shock valve would react, if at all, to the heavier oil.

Speaking about valves, maybe that's what needed replacing in your shocks in the first place. But I'm just speculating here.
