TR2/3/3A Fresh paint prep question

I am in the planning stage of a freshening of the paint on the TR3. Most of the painters I have talked to suggest soda blasting. One said if it was soda stripped, he would not do the work. It seems he has had problems in the past with paint not adhering after soda blasting. Does anyone have experience with this that could offer me counsel and/or advice?

I ran into the same issue. I was using Southern Polyurethanes epoxe primer. Per advice from Southern, soda residue will soften epoxe primers and cause them not to adhere. Thorough washing with dish detergent will remove the residue. I toothbrushed and "Waterpicked" my crevices. My paint is about 3 years old now and still stuck.

I just had mine dipped, and it worked really well. The phosphate finish is great and stops any sign of rust.

Plus 1 on Bob's dip. Gets rid of any caustic junk that makes paint spider web. Until you have spent months getting all the primer as flat as can be and then you hit it with that first coat of base and it looks like my 74 year old hands, you will never understand that prep is the answer to all good paint jobs.

I had my tub and body parts sand blasted at a specialty automotive sandblasting shop. They epoxy primed most of the parts before I took them home. Was not cheap, but totally worth it. Soda blasting is more gentle on the parts, but a good sand blaster can get your parts cleaned up in a jiffy and is probably a little less expensive. No issues with panel warping or heat from the blasting operation.

The body will not be removed from the frame, so dipping is not an option. Likewise for sandblasting (my sandblaster said too much grit into bearings etc). So I'lll probably be opting for soda.
p.s. I'm only 72 but I could match wrinkled hands with the best of um.
