Here is what he says is in there: "steering wheel, hoses, dist. cap, dual intake, carb. cover, alternator, radiotor, oil filter mount, bumpers"

I see carbs in the picture.

If someone needs several of these things it might be a pretty good deal.

Ouch! Good catch Tony!

Sometimes I've emailed people with outlandish shipping and gotten them to be more reasonable. I guess this guy wouldn't have much incentive though since he already has bidders on the line.

The only thing of value there is the oil filter housing and maybe the carbs.

Here is a reason why some people charge an outrageous amount for shipping.......they are trying to beat eBay at their own game. How? Ebay does not charge fees on the amount you charge for shipping, so if a particular part has a fair market price of $20 and would normally cost $5 to ship then you could list it at $5 and charge $20 to ship. You are (as the buyer) essentially paying the same price, but the seller only has to pay fees based on the $5 bid, instead of $20. This could add up to hundreds of dollars in savings to a seller that sells a lot on eBay.

I see this a lot on eBay......once you factor in the shipping cost they charge with with the amount of the current bid to the overall price you're willing to pay most of the time you are still getting a good deal. You just have to do some extra math to figure it out! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Actually that is a pretty big amount of stuff both in terms of volume and weight, maybe not $50-75 to ship, If the guys buys the box and the peanuts to pack it in this cost plus actual shipping will cost a bit. Certainly not as bad as some of the electronics and things like that weigh less than a pound and vendors put a $20 shipping charge on.
I don't like this practice, but what I see here is certainly not as bad an example as many I have seen on E-bay.

But the lesson to be learned is to never bid unless you know the shipping cost (or need it so much you just don't care don't care).

E-bay has a policy against excessive shipping costs or adding in E-bay fees or paypal fees into S & H, but it is not really enforced to my knowledge.

The guy also said the shipping would be less if the buyer didn't want the bumper. Not too bad considering that.
Still it only looked like an acceptable deal if you needed several of the items in the box.
