Our cousins are coming to visit today bringing
with them the 10 year old boy. I can't wait to strap
him in a harness and take him for a spin in the Bugeye.
Just a slow cruise through some twisties should do
the trick. I plan on using the GoPro camera to
shoot some video. Post 'em on the web so he can show his
friends back home. Who knows, maybe he's a future addict
in waiting. Hehe...maybe a future heir to my stable of rides.
He already LOVES my FJ40 from some off road fun stuff we did.

Sounds like a dastardly plot. Don't you think that the parents might be a little annoyed to find that you're pushing LBC addiction on their little boy? As Steppenwolf sang, "the pusher don't care...."

Heck...they can "afford" some indulgence. I think I'll
give him a Johnny Lighting Bugeye for a keepsake too.
I'm the evil cousin.

Why would you infect this innocent child with this terminal disease?

I still blame my neighbor.... and I was only 8 when the parade of cool cars started to show up in his driveway. MG TC, E jag, Challenger T/A, Alfa Gta...

Inoculation was a success. Grinning the whole time
but got a big ol grin on a 6.5K WOT. I put the camera
pic every 2 seconds to see if I could catch something.
Best of the lot. It's the one I might frame.

Maybe you should have let him drive - that would
really be memorable.

now that you've got him hooked, if you need the dash removed or work in the back of the boot, this would be the time

Howdy David,

Why not bring the young lad around to the house. I can`t show him the TR4 as it was delv. yesterday but I do have a bunch of pics hanging in the garage of various marques that he can contimplate on which one he`ll be buying in the near future! I feel for his Dad. He`s goin to hate you!!

Regards, Russ

PS: "THANX" for helping out the young lady in the house. I owe you some Shushi, Golf @ the Rock or a couple of hrs on the Pool Table. Which would you prefer?

Good thinking! I missed my chance THIS time. Next time
I do have some chores in those areas he'd fit with ease.

This ploy should be used on any of our yout within our reach.

I was at about that age when I got an eye-openin' ride in a neighbor's visitin' friends' S-2 Elan... Warped fer life.

hear , hear....we have to prepare the youth of today to
keep these old buckets alive in the future.
S-2 Elan....man you were a lucky kid!

Edit: He asked my wife if he could call us Aunt Lynn and Uncle David instead of "cousins". After the ride.
She said of course you can!

The thing set up perfectly. He expressed interest in the
old cabin(1800s)we restored and wanted a look see.
We walked down to the cabin and he spied Gundy, the
FJ40, and headed for the truck. Does it run? We open
the hood(bonnet for you Brits)and connected the battery cut off switch. Fired the ol boy right up. Moved it a bit
and shut it off. Back outside the truck he poured over
the external gear. Is this a winch? Yeah, it'll pull 8K
pounds straight line. How do you keep the truck from sliding?
Come with me and I'll show you the big old wedges we use,
chocks, like you see on plane wheels and such.
Open the double doors of the Buggy Barn. There in the front
corner are the chocks. He wasn't looking at the chocks.
WHAT is THAT! Finger pointing the Sprite, out of it's cover
with just the tonneau zipped. He NEVER noticed the wife's B
under it's cover. Never asked about it. The Bugeye was quite
enough.
Wanna go for a ride? Up comes the bonnet(hood for us Yanks)
Connect the battery switch. He's stunned. He steps out of the garage. COUGH..Spit...Cough ....Varoom....cough...spit...
Varoom....lumpy nasty noises settled to a tolerable lope.
Some clutch feathering and...
Screamin' Mimi has left the Barn.
Strapped him in his harness. Cool. :cooler:
Away we went down the new gravel drive...fishtailing on command.
I was stoked(chuffed for you Brits)and he was stoked.
Yada yada yada....he's hooked.
Drive wasn't more than a mile but the wife said they heard us for most of the mile.

Oh man, that's brilliant. I've a few nephews close to that age, so I'll start planning now.

Luckily my 10 year old daughter's hooked, she runs my sandblast cabinet all the time and helps me with all sorts of wierd stuff. Small hands are *very* useful, especially when I've dropped a bolt somewhere into the car and can't reach it.

I tried to convince my wife that I could build a bolt down frame to attach the child seat into my Jensen-Healey (in place of the passenger seat) so that my one and a half year old son could go for rides with me.... she wasn't amused....
