Firewall

My firewall has A LOT of holes in it. I'm making a new wiring harness with the intent of simplifying wire routing and hiding as many wires as possible. Heater is gone, mechanical tach cable is gone. The hinges are also gone, so I can cover those holes as well. The raised areas just behind the battery have holes in them as well, so I cut those out to make it flush. I want to cover the firewall with aluminum, I need apiece about 6" x 50", 1/8 to 1/4 thick.

I'm having a hard time finding something locally, ordering anything is at least $50 with shipping. I'm curious if anyone else has done the same/similar?

I looked at diamond plate as well, it is also expensive. The only thing I found in Lowe's/HD was metal flashing for roofing, but it is too thin.

I saw this done on a Big Healey, but I can no longer find the pic.

David, Looked at your blog site and your BE raised up in the front looks really, really precarious and dangerous. Guessing you don't own a welder or bodywork repairs would have been done in metal instead of fiberglass. How about a big flat piece of sheet metal i.e. a section of car roof from a local auto recycling center aka local junk yard. You ought to be able to find a big enough piece there.

50"? I would have guessed less than 48". You can always include a seam and cover it with a bit of flat stock.

Here's the pics of the BJ7 that gave me the idea for this. Fortunately, the Bugeye firewall is a lot smaller. His is stainless steel.

I measured again, to go all the way to the edge of the rear bonnet support is right at 50". If a 48" piece was a lot cheaper, I could make that work.
