Hey all, been a long time. Looks good here.
A couple of weeks ago, the starter on my 1974 MGB ground to a halt. Initially, I thought the problem was an old battery and battery cables. So, I bought a new battery and replaced the cables. The voltage is right now, but the starter wouldn't turn. Wouldn't surprise me to find out that the dying battery might have done a number on the starter's brushes.
I removed the starter and took to a place in Chattanooga called AABCO Starter and Alternator. They have a good reputation around here for being able to rebuild just about anything. Seemed reassuring that they knew what it was that I brought in.
Trouble is that it's been at least two weeks, and when I called them to check on it today, they said they were having trouble finding some parts for it and asked me to call back tomorrow and they would know more.
I took the starter to be rebuilt in hopes that it would be cheaper than getting a new one. Seems new ones cost around $225 or $250, and that's alot when you're in grad school... I'm pretty sure they can fix it, but I'm also wanting my car back on the road.
But this has me worried. Is anyone aware of a source for a starter in or near the Chattanooga area? This includes any people who might have an extra one sitting around. I used to be involved with the local club but had to give it up for awhile due to the time commitment.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you,
-Bill
