What in the world. Took the car out for a real drive tonight. It was cold but if figured oh well. A sock cap and away we went. Wanted to get a full tank of gas and drive for a few minutes to see if she held. Ended up driving to a buddy that I met through the local club website last year. He is building a 59 BE about 20 minutes from my house. He wanted to go for a spin and we did. On the way home from his house I decided to try the heater again because it was so cold! Blew the fuse. argghh!!! Pretty much knew that was going to happen, but oh well. Not turn signals. Got closer to home and realized that the blasted fuel gauge was not working again. Are you kidding me. After saying a few choice words and calling my dad, I said, hold on, I;ll call you back. It was the fuse. Gauge still works, thank god. And thank Kim by the way.

Here is the weird thing. I hit a bit of a jarring bump along the way home and heard a bit of a bad noise. Not real bad, just weird. I have never heard it before. I also heard something scooting along the road behind me. WHat in the world? EVerything was working fine and I wasn't far from home. When I lifted the hood to see about the fuse issue and the fuel gauge. I noticed that there were a few pieces of my yellow plastic fan in the engine compartment and I am now missing a few blades.. Are you kidding? Has anyone had this experience? I tseems strange. WHat could have caused this to happen?> Obviously the bump cause it to happen, but how could the motor have flexed enough for the fan to get into the radiator and break? COuld it have just had a stress fracture in it?

Thoughts?

Assuming new motor mounts and radiator bolted in good, stress fracture is a good guess.

I think Moss had a bad batch of fans that they recalled at one point. Is yours a reproduction or an original?

...or maybe it wasn't midget fans (might have been another model)

Man! You are lucky you don't have a big lump or gash in the bonnet. Can you see any signs of damage on the radiator?

It is a repro from last spring. I have to check it all out tonight. WIll take a better look at the radiator.

If it is a Moss repro, then it is still under warranty (I think).

There are many things that could cause it to shatter, but if nothing is obvious I'm going to suspect the part was faulty.

I've heard of the original metal fans breaking due to stress cracks, but never a plastic one. Must have been some bump!

Dont feel bad, Any one seen Brian Kraus' RX-Midget. I read a story that he tore out of the driveway for a spin forgetting to snap the fiberglass hood down. It didnt stay there long. Now that is frustration!
