TR6 Fair value for a rebuilt TR6 engine

Any idea what fair value for this would be?

TR6 engine, zero miles. Left stock except for a mild cam and a +020 overbore. New valve seats and some modest head work.

Professionally rebuilt carbs and hi-torque starter included.

If rebuilt from short block up, to high standards (if it is yours, I am sure the standards are high), I would say $5-6K.

It's not mine - mine has more than 6k of parts in it before we even get to the work.

This is a different one. Much closer to stock.

I knew you had a bunch of $$$ into your engine but thought this might have been a spare you had made up. I think TRF sells (or used to sell) a complete engine in that range. I don't think they have the shop to do that anymore, may be wrong.

My .02 worth
TRF latest catalog has major engine assemblies TR6 listed for $4,200 assembled. These look to cover everything for the basic engine block and head, cam, timing train and tin. No mainifolds, carbs or starters. Also a $500 core. Plus shipping . Rebuilding done by Tom Spadafora. It also comes with a warranty to some degree. See catalog for details

I am having my engine redone to stock locally and the current high estimate is $2500. Parts, machine work and labor. This is by an established shop, with local TR6 and LBC references. I should get the final estimate today.

So, unless you know the shop/rebuilder very well, and/or really want the mild cam and head work, I would offer less than 5k as it would appear you can get a stock engine with warranty for about 5K without a core.

My guess is that the actual selling price would be at a discount to the TRF offering unless everything was documented and/or warranted....

I'm not passing judgement on the work or anything like that, just that private sales like this are typically discounted.

I purchased a rebuilt engine with zero miles from an abandoned project car for $2,300. This might provide a low end on the value.
