Facet fuel pump

As I do more work on my (new to me) '66 BJ8 I find more parts that I have questions about. Today while changing a wheel cylinder I saw the fuel pump for the first time. It is a Facet. I googled it and found there are many types of Facet pumps. Mine is cylindrical, mounted vertically and appears to have a spin off cap on the bottom. I think that cap houses a filter. It spins off of two "ears" like a turn signal bulb might have on it. The pump ticks just like the original type pump. My questions are these: Is this a good pump and if I spin off the cover to check the filter will the fuel drain out unrestricted?

That is the best pump there is! It used to be the Bendix pump, used on light aircraft and standard equipment on some of the Italian exotics. I have taken the cover off, and never seen enough dirt to worry about. I did it with the pump off the car. I think a small amount of fuel might be released. Not much.

Thanks! I wondered if the pump was trustworthy and could be counted on. Your comments make me feel good about the pump. One less thing to worry about. I found that I have a Mallory dual point distributor on the car so someone must have been taking good care of the car in the past.

Is this the facet pump that is quiet? I have the square body one which is very nice, but sort of noisy.

It's ok, my gas guage isn't very accurate so when the pump starts making lots of noise I know it's time to fill the tank...

There are a number of types of Facet pumps, some operate at quite high pressure which may necessitate a pressure limiter before the carbs.

Yes, this is the FACET pump that is quiet. Per the specs, using a pressure regulator would be recomended. In practice, however, I have run them both ways and not noticed a difference.
