Exhaust manifold differences???

Hello, Have a question re exh manifolds on the B. Moss, and others, list two different parts #s for early vs V engines. What is the difference? Don"t want to put the wrong one on. Thanks Dennis

I never noticed that before assuming you are talking about the dual carb cars only. My Moss catalog does show two part numbers one from '62 through '71 and one for '72 through '74.
But my Victoria British Limited cataloge only shows one from '62 theough '74.
None of them are available. You might check with Tony at www.theautoist.com He probably can tell you and most likely has a bunch laying around.

The mounting ears (flanges) are different. I think the change came with the shift from HS4 intake manifolds to HIF intake manifolds. Those carb manifold mounting flanges are a different thickness. Mixing exhaust and intake manifolds would make leakage problematic.

Thanks GT, that's good to know.

Guys, I've got three exhaust manifolds and four intake manifolds on my workbench right now. The exhausts are from 2 71s and a 72. The intakes are HS, HIF, Weber DCOE and Weber DGV. All measure the same, 0.560 to 0.570 in thickness. Wonder what that means? (Too much stuff on my bench at one time?)

Yep, Gerry...means your bench is beginning to look like my garag....seriously, any head will fit on any engine - about the only thing you have to change is the rear pedestal on the rocker assembly...any intake/exhaust will also fit on any head...the differences aren't worth discsuuing!...one of the nice things about our LBC's!

Thats why every good book on MGBs has instructions for shimming between the mounting flang of the manafold and the washer on the mounting bolt. BL never produced intake and exhaust manafolds with flanges of the same thickness. =)
