Exhaust Man. Gasket

This was found by the shop who is servicing my 4A, when they started to replace my exhaust manifold.
Amazing!
I wonder if I will:
Get more power?
Have fewer occasions of run on?
Better operating temps?
Improved mileage?
Bigger smile?

Very, very interesting. Kind of reminds you of the old 1960's JC Whitney "Gas Misers" that went into the intake, under your carb(s) to "supercharge and atomize" the air/fuel mixture for increased power and gas mileage.

End result was many vacuum leaks and bonus business for good shops, fixing back alley repairs. Sadly, as usual, the consumer got porked.

I know, I am amazed that there was actually enough space to blow out the exhaust gas.
Spring diving will be some kinda special after this little discovery!

I make a lot of tooling, fixtures and small machines at work, and one of the things I constantly have to be aware of is how to make everything as idiot proof as possible. If there is a way to screw something up, the average worker will find it. All the Triumph engineers had to do was make the bolt pattern in a rectangle instead of a square, and this never would have happened. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

BTW, your new found power should really give you the giggles. Man, that engine had to be gasping for air...like stuffing a potato in the exhaust pipe. Reminds me of the old two cycle Saabs. I used to work for a Saab dealer, and you could hear the engines gasping as the customer drove up, looking for a tune-up. Well, we knew by the sound that what the car really needed was a new exhaust system because the old one was just totally plugged up from all of the oil vapors that the two cycle pumped out.

I wonder what condition your exhaust valves are in? No were for all that heat to escape.

I learned long ago, if you try make it "Idiot Proof", someone will make a better idiot to get around your efforts. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

The factory of the future will be run by a man and a dog.
The man will be there to feed the dog.
The dog will be there to make sure the man doesn't touch the machines.

Hard to believe it would even run like that, looks like only about 10% open area for the exhaust gas.
I guess I'll be able to spot you driving around Edmonton by the new found speed this summer Tomster.
Seems like a long way off; snow was drifted 3 ft high on my drive this evening, 60MPH wind gusts with snowfall mixed in.
Still, I got to play with my 10HP snowblower; but helping Tinster locate his car and getting it to go is starting to look real attractive right now.
