Empty engine compartment

The engine compartment looks lonely without it's heart, but it's only for another week or so. Now is the time to install the Master's Headlamp Relay harness and the Spal relay harness for the new cooling fan.

Plus, we'll get to paint all of the spots that you miss when you do something with an engine in the car.

The block and head came out of the cooker last night and will be set up on the line bore tonight for the beginning of the machine work. My new valves came in and I now have everything needed to start the head machining along with the block. Hopefully, by this time next week, I'll be getting ready to take it all back to Erik's to put it together and paint it up.

The red paint on the head survived 8 straight hours in the cook tank. That was the Dupli-Color 1200 High Heat Ceramic spray paint.

Dave,

It's tucked in a corner in the back of Erik's shop at Her Majesty's Service. I have a single car garage and no room to do any of this type of heavy work. And even if I did have the room and time, I still wouldn't do it. Those days and that heavy work are fond memories for me.

And yes, I believe that is a an old Coates machine.

Everything will look a lot better in another few weeks.

Hey Paul !!

That red painted piece in the trash barrel?

Send it on down to me, will ya? I might be
able to do something with it.

Stupid kid on the block question: Did you have to remove
the two seats, dash support plinth, carpet and tranny
tunnel in order to get access to all the engine/tranny bolts?

I'm with you Doug............
Paul, you might want to consider a clear perspex bonnet so you can view that piece of artwork that will be re-installed shortly. You could leave the metal bonnet where it is as a hard top....?

Curious, Paul, how were you able to remove the block and leave the tranny in place? What is supporting your tranny? How will you stab the tranny/engine together with so little room to move back/forward?

So many questions, so few answers.

I was wondering the same thing too.

Ah... all these pictures are bringing back memories of our similar project with the Volvo a few years ago.

Hi Paul,
I checked out your car a little when I dropped off the TR3 at Erik's on Tuesday. Look's like he's also cleaned up the engine compartment quite a bit since then. It'll look great when the engine get's finished and put back in.

Paul quit posting pictures. I'm with the rest of them, your under the hood looks better than my "outsides". I had just got to the point where I was going to live with my Rootbeer driver and concentrate on getting the projects going.

As you know, just kidding. Keep posting. We, or at least I, enjoy seeing the progress you have made and are making.

I am jealous that you have someone in the neighborhood that can help. In WV there aren't many that can even spell TR, much less AH.

Bill,

Thanks to all for the compliments. It's easy to keep clean when you've had control of the car for 34 years.

As far as the transmission, it is held by a block of wood in the front and several under the middle to hold it up.

It's actually lower than the standard height due to the top cover assembly being off at this time. Well, it's probably back on again by now, but I had to take it over to the O/D Guru at Quantum Mechanics to help diagnose an intermittent leak. Rather than fool around, John just rebuilt another cover from a known none leaker and gave it back to me on Weds. We shall see the results with any luck in a few weeks.

Bill,

I hope to have it well broken in for the Harkness State Park Show in early June. This year it is listed on our Cape Cod British Car Club calendar as a club event, so I may be joining an entourage from RI & MA entering your fine state event.
