Triumph was much more than a sports car manufacturer. Though the Acclaim is little more than a Honda Accord wearing different badges.

Actually, the Acclaim was a little LESS than an Accord; it was a badge-engineered version of the Honda Ballade, which in turn was essentially what we got in the US as the second-generation Civic four-door sedan. But it did sell well, and Triumph likely could have done much worse than to fade away in Honda clothing (think Trabant)! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I was in prague last year and I was wearing a Triumph (bike) shirt. This girl came up and asked why I was advertising women's underwear.

Which looks a lot like this Accord that we got here in the late 70's. So maybe it was more of a case of the Accord growing from the Civic (CVCC). Much like the Toyota Supra grew from the Celica. Maybe? Bah! Were a British car forum, not a Japanese one. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I've seen those ad's in Prague and in Poland. Taking up the enitre side of a building. At least it's still British based ladies underwear . /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Actually its a German company. They have a factory nearby, I see it every time I go to get some engine part reworked.

From their Web site:
In our hundred years and more of seduction, we have grown from modest beginnings as a classic corsetry manufacturer in Germany's Swabia region to a major multinational corporation - and the company is still in private ownership today. When Triumph's founders launched their corsetry business from a barn in Heubach (Württemberg, Germany) in 1886

They must have their website UK based since London is much more of a fashion capitol than just about anywhere in Germany.

That's interesting. The Accord was only sold as a hatch-back in the UK at that time. We have never had any Acuras over here. They are all marketed as Hondas.

Regarding the "origin" of the Triumph Acclaim, perhaps this comparison of a Honda Civic [l] and a Triumph Acclaim [r] will help:
